40 years old, from Germany (and not proud of my country at all). I work as a light- and soundengineer at a theatre.
Beside work my main focus is on listening to and making music: Bassist since I'm 16, since some years in a (kind of) punkrock band, but also have a huge interest in electronic music and producing in my home studio here and there. Just started to learn playing piano.

I know very little about current Russian music. You have had soem very good classical composers, but I do not think that is what you were meaning.
The only ones I know of is (embarrassingly) Tatu and this song I saw/heard from back in 2004 on Newgrounds

| Actually Russian music isn't a big deal in Germany, probably because Russian language sounds kind of strange to us (no offense). Only Russian artists I know: Distemper (Skapunk band, which tours Germany from time to time) and Enei (Russian DnB producer). |
| It is clear that you have heard very few people. The fact is that our mass culture is in deep crisis. While in Europe and throughout the world there was an active development of genres and music in general, in the USSR the state completely submitted such creativity. And now we do not have any musical heritage. Those artists, which we see on TV ... I do not at all believe that someone comes to their concerts. Their music is based on nostalgia. young performers do not understand what to base themselves on, trying to copy Western performers. Although it is worth acknowledging, in recent years 5 there have been a lot of interentional and promising performers. |

As for the Russian music:
I think traditional Russian one is very different from actual "mainstream" the majority generally listens in Europe.
(however I have heard at my friends some Croatian, Serbian traditional performers which might be of similar stlye and there are some quite good songs)
As others said the main problem must be, that we do not understand Russian, so cannot really enjoy such songs... |
