I meant that it would be a good idea to add another language or two which is widely spoken in the gaming community to attract more players and not to make 100 languages (As many of you are trying to say). So please stop taking my post out of context, thank you. So I will say it again: it's not about us, it's about a new generation of players for the game LordsWM.
This is a discussion in how adding another language would be possible, not to complain about the English version lacking translations, so please start a different thread for that.
for merlin36:
I gave you an explanation, pointed out why what you said is a bad idea and I never said players wouldnt be able to get to lvl5 without understanding a word and thats why none are in the game and I didn't mean that so please don't mention some unnecessary stuff which have been answered.
P.S.: The game is already done in English and translating it to other languages can be done parallelly. But can also have a beta version for testing.
So with that being said, I hope I wasn't disrespectful / harsh towards anyone, | Idk about other languages but speaking of HINDI (indian language) i dont think it would even bring like 10 more player after translating the whole thing accurately.
And speaking of not much new players coming , this is the fate of browser games now. Go to any and almost every browser based mmo and u will see player base only reducing. Android/ios gaming is more common now , i am very sure Lordswm enjoys a lot more players if u compare to other browser based mmos, an other mmo which i played had some 1500 players on average on its 25 servers now barely has 30 people playing it , and Lordswm did a great job shifting from flash to HTML otherwise most of the other games of its kind are gonna go extinct with flash especially with them seeing no positive increase in players. | Hindi is my mother tongue , and I will never like to play a game with everything written in it ... makes me feel nauseatic...
English is much more easy to read and understand tbh | Is the idea good?
Yes, the idea is great.
I am bilingual - English and Hindi. I would love to play a game in Hindi. It will give me a chance to brush up on my Hindi reading skills, hardly read much in it these days. I am learning Arabic languages and I would love to practice that, would be a lot of fun.
There are a lot of folks who cannot read and understand English. It is reasonable to assume that an alternative language would benefit them. Even now, some folks are not able to enjoy the story part of the game because their English is not as good. If the story was in their mother tongue, they would be able to get involved.
Should this be the thing admins focus on next?
Again, the answer depends on availability of resources and goals. Let us assume the goal is to maximise revenue. Then, this can work well. .ru interface has captured mostly only the Slavic market. I do not see why finding another niche market will not work well. It is usually always advisable to find a niche market and build up a precise user persona. The wider and less precise the targeting, the less the chances of success. Focus is important and surprisingly effective.
Revenue maximisation is often not the only goal. Choice of market also depends on where the entrepreneur wants to live, the people you want to meet with daily, the story you tell yourself. For example, I am a desi boy. A decade and a half outside India made me realise that I am happiest living with my mom and dad in the familiar streets of Lucknow. Hence, I subconsciously end up targeting the Indian market, setting up dev shop in India, etc.. I do not want to manage a large team, this is why I want to do a B2B business. I guess Russia and the admins might have a similar relationship. The head of an entrepreneur is so fascinating! The small micro-decisions that impact the strategy, if only we could model that. I am a sucker for startup stories.
As an idea, this is great. | I remember, in "Old" LWM (Before the merge)...
There were like 2 Spanish clans, both of them FULL of spanish people
(Correction though: I mean Spanish + South american people).
Now I've counted this amount of people as of 2018-2019, and I think we are barely 10, or so ...
(its not difficult to count .Com players anyway, maybe Indians yes, but the rest we are a handful just).
>>>> I mean, yes, I totally agree it'd be cool to have this game in Spanish, French, an so on...
But the game is lacking in SO many other things (Again, its going better than X years ago, I must admit), that +++languages is suprisingly the smallest of its worries... IMHO
>>> PS: You dont recall all the movement done... JUST to have us get the News translated into English? Please, Lmao...XD
Expecting more languages, its a bit of an unreachable thing.
But I appreciate the effort, friend. | To be fair, this can be done entirely on a volunteer/peer reviewed basis. Realistically, trusted players could be 'hired' (for miniscule diamond rewards) to translate sections of the game in their spare time. I've seen this done in other games and there's really no reason it could not be done here. | Don't get me wrong but I think lack of advertisement has more to do than language options.
Should be noted, that this game cannot be advertised in countries such as USA, considering the game uses main elements of the game Heroes of Might and Magic 5, as well as some elements from other games, without the game owners (ubisoft) consent. Hell, I believe if Ubisoft found out about this game they would shut it down fast. | Well we all avoided to mention the elephant in the room but yes.
It's not that they don't know I believe, it's because the amount of damage is been done since, is very low for ubi to bother if it expand it's another story.
Since this is the field I work in RL, I know for a fact that no big co. bothers as long as the expenses and the time to prosecute you will cost more than the damage they get.
And I can tell you LWM is doing fine keeping a low profile. :) |
