you need magic guild 1 at this point for 40% mass rapid and 40% mass delay. You also need hit and run unita like shrews or cerbs to kill big slow meat while invokers and ahooters kill the enemy shooters. enemy shooters focus nvokers so shrews are safe.

I already have magic guild 1 (must have for #37). Shrews sound like a good approach. Would the hero zap them out though?

yes, many events have this mechanic.
