Yes, the higher the better.

Firstly I recommend you to choose between pain + curse or mind. Or mind + curse.
Simply because you don't have enough time to cast 9999 spells.
If you're going with pain build, then you'll need basic erudition, because you can have extra SP from it.
If you're going with Mind + Curse however, you can go with 4 - 6 Kn with 5 - 8 SP.
Also take leadership cause of ogres.

I've no idea about settle wise.
Just to be clear here, pain build take erudition.
mind + curse take leadership.
How about this build -

Pain + Mind, just so that I can cast mass delay, or confusion if reqd in some cases, and the rest of the turns I can stick to disruption ray. This + Leadership.
I am not too interested in decay since that will absorb a lot of points on SP.

Is it worth a shot?
Always worth a shot, and yes decay will eat a lot SP.
The secret is keep adapting and tweaking until you reach the sweet spot, also do some math always helps, aiming to get the best damage/hp/habilities from creatures as possible.
Since you're taking dominon of mind, make two stacks of orcs for casting weakness, it will be more userful than goblins. Do the opposite if you decide to take curse instead.

Which is the maximum number of birds that you can recruit? I like to transport ogres, so they can take part in the combat, and boars won't be targeted alone.
How good/bad is barb for TG at CL 9 with DU?
Could be fury, shadow or normal, full ap.
Orc chiefs are really a great improvement from orcs. The damage and hp increment alone make it definitely worth upgrading however cl 9 is very small.. you will become level 10 too soon to be able to enjoy the DU worth regardless of faction. I would only upgrade if i had leftover diamonds.
I've hundreds of diammonds to spare... Besides it will take a while, I want to make 1kkk - 1.5kk (after selling TGI) and reach TG 5, before starting CGs.


I was thinking more into tyrants, their double strike is so sweet!
They also have 5 speed, which means I can reach the starting spot from people...
I could use the TG set for those battles as well... the initiative is cool.

For my counts the difference between the shop arts would be.
-3 attack
-3 def
-5% melee damage
-15% magic resistence
+9% initiative
+1 speed
+1 morale
+1 luck
+12% range resit
+10% initiative for hero. (stun like crazy)

Something like 202/gold battle more than the full ap that I was planning.

The only problem is... I didn't really wanted to use the same faction for TG as for CG, since I'll use potion of skill... But I also don't want to buy DU for two castles, nor would make any sense to do TG at this level without DU...
Or... I could use GH for TGs... With vitality and fury...
Yeah... Goblins will have +2dmg...
Tyrants are strong and versatile. They have lower base initiative than chiefs (same as gmbs i think) which can often get them attacked before they get to shoot :)
Also you get to recruit more chiefs.
The shop art for CG will give me 20% initiative plus TG level, 25% total planned.
GH would give me +25% + TG level, up to 30%.

That way tyrants will get 13 initiative for CG (FSL included, PoS)
And up to 13 for TGs, (PoS not included.)

I know that shapshoter has 11 default initiative, but it's not that easy to beat mine, also absolutely no might faction at level 9 can compete against fury barb range.

But overall, what you think?
Yeah I could use normal barb with thief set... I've to compare both settles first.
I'll be honest, tyrants sounds more sexy for me. And shadow doesn't have decay,weakness,confusion at this level, which is just bad.

The poltergeist and enemy luck parameter is making it a nightmare.
What are the general strategies versus a luck build compared to the same might build but with talents concentrated on the offence sector?

I just hit level 5. Are hobgoblins really that good? I just bought them and am tempted to swap to gob archers. thoughts?

Yeah, Hobgobs are really good at this level.
