It is a small steel blade which looks neither like a short sword nor like a long knife. Perhaps it is the most common weapon among the pirates as it is not only designed to cut open the throats of merchants at the sea, it can also be used to carve your name on the sinking ship or in extreme cases to gut the fish and have a quick shave, or even out of cheer boredom to throw it at the mast of the ship.
