Author | Email confirmation to be able to recover lost passwords |
For Grusharaburas #19
This suggestion reeks of "nanny state" mentality and is somewhat "twisted" (or at least "bent") in my book.
This game already reeks of "nanny state" etc because we already have email to recover passwords. If you think about it, you got to admit that we don't need children that can't keep track of a password, do we?
Seriously now. The better a product is made, the less it needs support and administration. Support and administration cost time for the owners and is annoying for the users. It is usually very profitable for the owners to spend a couple of hours making software that prevent support issues.
Many (probably even most) commercial sites with registration requires validation of an email before you can access them at all. A game can't "afford" that because it might turn down players. Giving a bonus for providing a valid email is rather common for games. | +1 | This game already reeks of "nanny state" etc because we already have email to recover passwords.
One, we clearly are not on the same page when we talk about "nanny states". The feature to use emails to recover passwords are like helmets. Making helmets available does not make a government a "nanny state". When it pays (diamonds or freebies) you to wear helmets, that for me is a "nanny state".
Two, I am disturbed by what you are implying with this sentence. You mean to say if there are a lot of things that are already wrong we should just sit back and let them add more wrong things to the game? I know we do not agree on what is "right" or "wrong" but still...

I now see exactly where we disagree. You seem to believe that making things "user friendly" is always a good thing. I believe that that is not always the case. While your suggestion might help a few players, it might also offend some players. I do not appreciate being treated like a child and I'm sure there are others who feel the same. Of course, the majority would prefer being pampered so I see where this idea comes from.

The admins would have to be desperate to want to keep players who can't keep track of passwords. XD | +1 |
