Author | Please help us Demons out! A couple of suggestions inside |
OK, I'm not professing that I'm some HOWM master or anything, but it would seem to me that demons are by far the weakest of all the factions. Case in point, I have yet to win a single duel or group battle as a demon...
I just have a couple of suggestions for the faction that could help them out. (take notice on the top players board, Demons are the lowest % faction played BY FAR!)
1: Gating - It's a cool idea, but it doesn't actually help the demon in anyway, imho it's a wasted turn. Reason for this is that most demons are slow on thier Initiative, therefore if you use your gate, you have to wait for the other player's units to attack twice, or even 3 times. Perhaps make Gating only move the demon back like .25, not a full turn. Perhaps increase the amount of demons gated.
2: Numbers - Demons seem to have one of the lowest numbers also, considering they have lower hp, lower damage, lower everything, if you compare them to an elf. Raise the number of demons you can have by a little, or maybe increase hp a little. This doesn't have to be much.
That's the hang-ups about demons I've noticed so far. I haven't gotten to the later stages of the game, but as it stands right now Demons are horrible. |
1. Gating is great
2. Demons have great numbers
3. Demons have high initiative units
4. Wait 3-5 level.. and then make suggestions.. |
Yes I agree with Aravil. After lvl 5 demons become stronger and stronger and their gating really helps them out then. They can have high number of spawns, wolfhounds and succubi at that time and their initiative rules. So just try to wrestle through the first lvls and you'll see for yourself :) |
I'm kinda stuck and can't level anymore though. I can't win duels for good exp, and the monsters i run into on the hunt are red circle or red circle with a ! in it. meaning, i can't gain a single point of exp unless i lose a duel, then i get like 10 exp... |
You can look in combat log of highlevel demons and look, how they fought on low levels.. |
Demons are tough goin the first couple lvls, but once you get the hounds at 3 things pick up alot. Participating in group battles till 5 i found was the easiest, as you have back up with other players. Keep at it, demons are hella fun. |
actually only demons are slow as hell,
imps and wolfhounds are very fast.
but a stack of enraged demons is nothing to sneeze at, so, just work at getting them enraged and you are set.
this means, divide the imps and get them killed.
also keep in mind that the ammount of gated critters depends on your faction skill, so a lost duel with good faction increases are good. |
try playing with a few more imps to mana drain from necro and wizards
also gating closer to your troops means more troops
and at level 5!
scubbi!
return fire!
wot more do you want? |
Demons whip me alot. Because of the mana drain, I cant use my raise undead at all when facing demons. They get high numbers of decent monsters, and gating annoys the heck out of people. Not only that, it provides cannon fodder. If the enemy doesn't attack it, it can get an attack or two on the enemy. Or it can gate again. I don't know much about demons, just how demons always beat me. |
u should gate near ranged units then they can only melee attack |
@dynastyera: Also, sometimes people choose to be annoying and hide their ranger units behind a wall of weak, melee units like peasants. Gate a stack of demons (7, from a stack of 30) next to the ranged unit, and beat him up. I faced a level 2 knight with 20 Rangers and 4 peasants creating a small wall infront of the ranger. I lost 10 zombies on the way over, and 20 skeletons. I lost the battle because I needed to waste a whole turn on clearing a path to the rangers. If I could gate a stack of demons next to the ranger, trapping him as well and eliminating his ranged attack, i would have easily won. If you ask me, demons need to be nerfed. Now Necromancers...Necromancers definately need some new stuff. |
@ notanelf
If your opponent knows what he is doing he will surround his archer unit in the corner with his cannon fodder(like peasants etc.) so you can't gate near it.
Demons need to be nerfed? :S Try playing them and you will notice that they aren't that easy to play(especially at lvl 3) and ranged units can give you much trouble.
You would have a much easier time if you had put your first point into knowledge instead of attack. As a necromancer raise dead is your greatest weapon. |
@Depth: If you gate a stack of demons near the peasants, you can easily wipe one out, then continue on to the bowmen. I did try playing as a demon, and it was much easier than being a necro... Try getting a stack of ghosts close to the enemy without being shot down. That takes skill. |
the peasant barrier is no problem, just wait your imps till your hero has been to smack the living daylights out of that solitary peasant and space made for your imps
this BTW was also the necro fault, if you take a turn of 3 to slouch your zombies through to the opponent, then use that hero to create the path, not a turn of those zombies (at close range even), wait the hero to time it up.
on the advancing to shooters:
except for magi, all shooters do only half dmge in a range over 6 squares.
so, if you do need 3 turns to reach your target (zombies with speed 4), do not go all out forward turn 1, but stay at 7 squares, it is the difference of 1 or 2 x full dmge |
@ Mirz
It is a problem. I cant wait that many turns while he is killing my units and because he has the ranged unit and I dont have any he can set up a comfortable position to defend while I have to attack him fast if I dont want all my army dead. |
i think its obvious that ranged unit has advantages over melee unit,
so there is no perfect way to work around it
gating, in my opinion, is only helping you to get to the ranged unit more quickly
in the battle most of the time i see the gated units just die too quickly (i dont know in the higher lvl tho)
but, it sure helps to have gating ability, lol..better than nothing i guess ;p
well, at least in the lower lvl.. |
Gating is very helpful it lets you swarm the opponent's units. |
whining, again! Game is well balanced. |
Sure gating is helpful and all, but really, are demons meant to win? Its just basically a lost cause, with the incrediably low ini and hp of our ounly ranged the succubi, unit i rarely get a turn with them, and if i do ive never had more than 2 by the time thats come around. Hounds are nice and fast, but agian, low hp coupled with low def makes them easy to kill. The thing about demons in other HoMM is that they have an amazing ability to destroy opponets mana with imps on every turn, not just the first, and have huge swarms of creatures. Meaning that by the time you get to the elf with the bows, you still have a decent amount of troops to put up a half decent fight. |
@Kush
No one is whining we are DISCUSSING. It's a difference.
The game is obviously balanced for you as you play as an elf -.- |
