AuthorAll about Demon faction: Stats, Talent, Tactics, Strategy
i use max succi/hounds/hellhorse and rest on spawns

and as taents i like tactics more because when vs a barb you kill him instantly ^^
I'm level 9 and having great problems beating human DEs when thieving. My set up when thieving is max Horses, Wolves, Spawns, then the remainder incendiaries and Succubi. I go minimum succubi as against computer opponents they tend to die very early for not much return.

It just seems that you are stuffed no matter what you do. If you set up close to them, any sensible DE has his shrews split up in to 4 groups. Assuming your horses aren't completely smashed you can bash one of the group of shrews, just to get caned by the lizards, or take out the liz, just to get 4 more shrews rippig your army apart.

Set up far awayand start summoning, the shrew can still position to attack and run away. you have to at least have 1 turn running in to the blender and that turn loses you the battle.

If I took the full complement of succubi that might change things, but at the cost of losing more computer enemy raids.

Am I seeing this wrong. Are there other plans, or is it just that DE vs Dempn level 9 thieving is a mismatch?
i see two problems here:
Your demon level is very low but more importantly you seem to use Minimum Art.
I am not sure if using min art is more cost efficient not even considering the time wasted.

In my opinion always max art for thief - but maybe other people will differ.
I always use something close to min art for thieving. In fact I use the retribution talent with 4 morale (2 rings and 1 amulet). So that's 13 ap. I'm using a build with max incendairies and min succubi. Incendairies are slow, but with 4 morale they have wings from time to time ;-). But indeed, DE's are difficult.

Normally I put all my troops in a corner around my succubi (and hell horses in the other corner). If the DE is not a magic one, he'll have to move to you, since otherwise you can just keep on shooting him. If he moves close enough, you can probably catch the shrews (although it won't be easy if he's smart and you don't get the right moraleboosts).

But well, I know that with thieving you're supposed to loose 40% anyway, so I don't care if I loose against a player. Better to loose against one in min ap, than to waste full arts on a player with only one unit :D.
@tattersail. I'm a min AP thief.

With full arts, you'll win a lot in a row, and then they'll get more and more difficult until you start losing. At that point you are in the same spot as the min arts person except you are spending A Lot more money. It does mean if you get a human opponent you will probably destroy him, but theres a lot more computer opponents than human.
