i had a rootkit installed on my computer - thus a wide selection of trojans, probably viruses, maleware in general. it was a sneaky one, i couldn't find or remove it (only temporary). now i set windows XP back a week. and the maleware seems gone.
anyone knows: is this realy possible, is it gone for good?
and if not, what are the dangers? what should i do?
thx to all replies! i'm quite worried right now =( |
Are you familiar with the Windows Registry and Regedit.exe? |
no, what is it? |
please, i'm glad for each advice. i'm a bit paranoid right now... |
Didn;t u had an antivirus before the rootkit 'sneaked' into ur computer? |
Just in case its not totally removed, run a thorough scan on your pc using your antivirus + spyware/malware software. Google search Microsoft Malicious Software Removal Tool, and use the program to do a run as well.
If it comes out clean and you're still jumpy, a nice ole reformat will sure to get rid of the virus :P |
I suggest you to use a software called 'RootKit Revealer' and run it in your computer and let's see what it says about your computer. |
