AuthorRicochet shot bugs?
Ricochet shot:
Whenever this creature deals ranged damage to an enemy, the projectile ricochets three times, each time to another enemy nearest to the previous one. The target takes full damage, the second-in-line - 50% damage, the third one - 25% damage, and the last enemy in line - 12.5% damage. Ranged penalty is applied to all those who are out of shooting range of this creature (more than 6 tiles away). The ricochet shot skips creatures with Demonic ability.


i knew some players complain on this ability not working well especially in hunt. here is my GUESS on so called bugs (in fact, it wasnt for me) :)

correct me if i m wrong on these following description. i will talk on the chain lightning (Level 4 chaos spell from magic wand we had) as well.
according to HoMM setting, such bouncing ability SUPPOSE hurt all enemy stacks before hurt friendly stacks. so, the bounce will hurt friendly IF opponents have less than 3 stacks. but, it still follow the rule on 'bounce to nearest'.

BUT, we are in LWM, perhaps it was the setting problem. the problem on this ability - bounce to nearest target NO MATTER friend or foe, it didnt follow the rule on 'hurt all enemy before friendly'.

let's talk on PvP fight. eh... i m not sure on this (that's why i call it as GUESS). i never expert mistress can survive long enough until late game where everyone left a few stacks to test it out.

now, let's talk on PvE fight. hunts will be most common to found out.

first of all, you will find out it always work in hunts IF 2 hunters ARE demons faction. why? simple, this ability ignore demonic unit. so, you dont see the problem here.

here come the 'bugs' everyone mentioned. WHAT IF 1 of the hunters is NON-DEMON faction? demon players might find out the ricochet shot doesnt bounce to all hunt creature stacks sometimes.

the reason is your ricochet shot will not work due to friendly unit is nearer than next hunt creature stacks. It was needed to PREVENT you accidentally hurt friendly unit and cause you lose some fsp at the end of fight.

so, how can you get the ricochet work well? simple, unless your teammate NEVER move his unit forward to allow the ricochet shot bounce nicely; but i dont think it will happen ;p

another solution, admin have to re-wrok this ability. eh... dont ask me when will it be fixed; i m just a mod but not admin :)

i found out this problem with the magic wand we had on chain lightning as well too.

One more thing I noticed(might be a coincidence though) is when first target is in range while the others are not, the damage seems to be the halved original damage like 1600, 800, 400, 200 instead of 1600, 400, 200, 100. Any ideas?
#1 after a check on my hunts with assistant, the "nearest" explain all the stop chain whereas bouncing... So make sense and logic!

#3 As shooters, the next must be in 6 hex for 100% in other case 50% this could explain your 50% less!

perhaps this line should change to 'the second-in-range'. it will make it clearer and explain your case as well.
