Card decks

AuthorCard decks
For the tavern game I think it'd be great to let us customize our own decks of cards.

But not all of the cards can be used on lower levels. For example at level 1 you are given 20 or so cards and each time you level up you are given (X) more cards to use. Also you can't use more than 2 of the same card to prevent card spam.
you are thinking of another game
That would make it harder for lower levels to defeat higher levels. Now it's fair and purely on tactics and luck.

Why not have everyone given all the cards, but you must use each card minimum once and maximum once. :p

Now it's purely luck.
Right now there is virtually no tactics at all considering you don't know what you'll get and you don't even have a clue what your opponent might have. But if we actually had set cards to use everytime you could prepare for a tough opponent or something like that.

Most cards are almost the same; the only thing that differs, is their cost, but the effect is the same; cards were not designed to be part of a customized deck.

Actually, I believe it would rely even more on luck; right now, it's true, luck is an important part of the gameplay, but still, skill is involved enough to make some players have a higher number of wins than defeats (see Storminmerlin, or Omega22, just to name them). And, I believe that the difference beetween a skillful player, and the other players, is how to use some cards pretty useless in most situations (making them not interesting for custom decks). But sometimes, they really come in handy. And this is how you turn what should be a defeat, into victory. So, with custom deck, we wouldn't use them, and it would ruin the small strategy part. Worse: stack cards would loose most of their interest: why would people bother with standart ones, while you can simply neglect the opponents wall with quite a lot of cards? (9 monastery cards, 5 stack cards and even 1 mine card).

How would you end up with 200+ victories and 150 defeats, it was all about luck, btw, Sven? :)

I admit that a higher part of strategy would be welcome, but definately not implemented this way IMO.

see i feel i really know to play tavern
but i lose cause of luck.
there is only one strategy in the game that is to keep an eye on ur opp. resources
if he is discarding a useful card then he must have a bigger
im explaining this in very very short terms please understand
n rest all is luck.
i feel th stats of the players effect them
the player 500 wins n 300 def.
keeps winning more n getting lucky
some people feel creating their own challenge instead of joining someone elses makes them lucky but i really don't understand
someone has to explain us about all this!
60%-80% games are based on luck. The rest are those "close" games when you are just about to win and BAM, something bad happens just in time. That bad something is often some safety card(blue damage dealing). Those games you can win if you think and predict.

Giving lower level less cards options would be unfair. Higher level players(in means of Gamblers guild, card games played) have enough advantage, because they are just more experienced. Every player with positive victories developed his skills slowly, learning from his mistakes. Well, except for Lew, he was born with that.:-)

I will look for a small FAQ we put together(I think with moki)..there were some ideas and hints for people how to play and win..search function. :-(
you don't even have a clue what your opponent might have

That might be the problem. There are not so many cards in the whole deck, so you should have a clue, based on what cards already went(they are not likely to go twice very soon). And based on number of his stacks/mana/ore. Actually there are clues. Just its never 100%.:-)

Here it is. Dug it up. Few hints from me and qulows. In case it turns out helpful, it might be extended.

Of course provided that moki, StorminMerlin, Lew, Uliss or other talented players would be willing to disclose some of their tactics or thoughts(which they probably wont). Or maybe I will find out something useful to add too. :-)

PS: I would rather check and those players giving their insights one by one. Because I have seen a FAQ with advices I find as losing strategy.
For example:
"1.If you have Dragon Eye, dont be fast to use it, its a perfect finishing card."
Quite the opposite I think. Its most predictable finishing card ever. In most games its better to use it ASAP to scare the hell out of your opponent. You can hit him pretty hard when he is in panic with you having 4-5 tower to finish.

"2.Keep your tower lower than your opponent in case you dont have shift."
I would say keep your tower slightly higher than your opponent if you can(to protect against archers, waters, etc.)..except for the times you have shift. :-)

PPS: Any hint is useless if you dont know when to use it and why. There is no ultimate list of "how to" letting you win in every situation. Mostly because you cannot always win. And even in the games you could win, everybody does mistakes. Even Merlin. ;-)
