I suggest the Shrews are a bit too spamming. I hate those Shrews, they can attack without thier opponent retaliating, with a " Strike and Return ". Their innitiative are 22.5 so they get 22.5% of combat during a war. The only way to defeat these Shrews is by using range or magic.

they split in 3 stack and kill all wolf before there turn
if i send rock in front to kill them them hydra kills all rock
with tactics shrews easily get my orcs too and barb have no chance in front of them |

| You are lvl 5 and your complaining about shrews? :S besides at your level and being an elf shrews are no problem, if you know how to kill them. |

Yes, shrews are fast, and has high damage.
But to balance them admins put low recruit count, low def and relatively low HP.
And of course, might DEs need shrews, so -1 |

Wouldn't agree to that.
For a tier 2, Shrews are a lot more powerful than all other faction Tier 2 Creatures.

Shrews are like the Heart of DE, without em, DE is practically of no point! =P
And don't forget the fact that DE do not have good Ranged Attackers, Shrews Compensate for this down point. |

Dark elves do not have any range unit, other than bandits and poisoners, which are only useful at very low levels.
Every other faction has range units. So you should consider shrews the equivalent of archers/orcs/magis/succubi/mistresses...etc...
To counterbalance that they can't "shoot" just anywhere on the map, and their range is strictly limited to 8 (so they need to be close enough to the enemy lines), they have higher initiative and unlimited number of "arrows"
However, their defense/hit points are not very high and because they need to be close to the enemy, they die quickly. Usually they don't shoot as many times as an usual range unit does (unless the adversary plays very bad...)
One could also complain that elven bowmen have double strike. The barb's orcs (orc chiefs) are amongst the best missile units in the game, knight's crossbowmen ignore all defense if close enough, demon's mistresses have ricochet shot that hits many stacks at once, wizards' magi have through shot, etc...
Besides, shrews are the sexiest of them all... no matter your faction, is good to have them on the battlefield, don't you think???... |
