I suggest having buildings for each faction that generates resources, while making use of troops.
Eg.
[Necromancer faction: prison, costs 10000 gold per building,up to ten 'prisons'
generates 1 gold per day, per working troops
OR
Dwarf faction: Underground mines, costs 20000 gold per building, up to ten 'underground mines'
Generates 0.01 crystals per day, per working troops]
So if a player puts 100 skeletons into 'prison' and he/she has two prisons, at the end of the day, that player will receive 200 gold.
Also the player should be able to continue generating only if he/she is online, to let the troops work, as at the end of the day the troops will stop working and return to original recruitment.

Its a bit disbalanced, might destroy game economy. The idea can be developed, but it needs to have a lot of changes. | you're using skeletons/necromancers in your example, but how would other factions do this? where does one get his troops?
also, where do the troops go?

i'd go a step further: it's totally unbalanced, and suggests a whole new way of earning gold.
