Im not a language expert by any means but isnt it possible that Germans learn more english in school than Russians do??
Honestly I don't know if russian study English at school, but I'm sure Germans do (and they can speak it much better than italians ^^). Anyways, for convention, if two people aren't from the same country, they speak English. After the marge, I met maybe 5-6 russian speaking English. |
Open the map, and see how big Russia is. IF you live in such country, one might wonder why they need to know english at all. TV is in russian, music is in russian, they have everything they need in russian. Even when russians travel they expect people to speak their language - its just the mentality they have. We have to accept it. Even if they study english as much as we (in europe) do, without practice it just fades away. Same like most americans really never learn other languages, bcos they just dont need to use it. EVER.

Russia is big, but with low density: 8 ppl/km2! ^^" If the game is meant for russians only, it might be ok to speaking ONLY russian. Otherwise don't complain if you won't find more than 8-9k ppl online.

It is a selfish way of think, pretty unpolite in my opinion. If I meet a turist in Italy I don't say "here we speak italian, if you can't speak it, take a traslator or go back to your country". |

Also there is a script(.ru), which contains a set of standard phrases for the battle, you need only to press on the button in front of the phrase.

Your argument can be turned back against you. You think it impolite for Russians to not be able to or willing to speak English to you. Russians probably think it is Impolite for you to Log onto a game created by Russians that is Based out of Russia and expect all them to speak English for your benefit. |

I have no idea, but Travian is a German based game(like Lords is a Russian based game) and is mostly played by Germans. In my server there were 10 000 germans and about 1000 foreigners.
I respect Russian players that try to use english the best they can. I hate it when I get a reply, "Talk Russian or leave". Wich happens :). |

What i have heard though is cursing (in russian) for making bad moves :P
Once, I even got 1 gold coin from a player, in order to buy arts, when i entered a dual min AP thief ambush :P

The solution is simple: this community is not mature enought to understand how web communication works. In WOT for example (wich is a russian game, guinnes world record for players online, just to let you know the difference) players speak English. Also in Tribal Wars, Travian, Ogame, Ikariam (...) players speak English. What is the difference? Simple: this game will never get notoriety since it is close to non-russians players. We recive news late, we are often ignored and excluded since we doesn't speak russian.

Don't worry about that. I'm pretty sure that every Russia had already played a game that has been created in an English Speaking country.

There are a lot rude russians (what to say - Russia + average age of ppl is bout 15, pupils-nerds) in the server, but don't forget that there are also kind players, that respect others... If the problem with language - use translator, if with community - you are free to leave.

You are right. We are often ignored and sometimes it does feel like we are not wanted. That leaves us with a choice. We can either complain and whine and focus on our misery or we can just play the best we can and have as much fun as we can with what we have even if it is with a translator. I choose the 2nd option. |

Your desire for them to learn English is an arrogant selfish desire. If other games, most of the people speak English, you should fee gratitude towards them, not expect it of all other games.

Mandarin is only used in 1 country, English is the international language, also Mandarin is much harder to learn.

For me, only problem with Russian language is different letters (because I can't write them from my keyboard;P). Because I'm from Poland, I can understand many words from Russian. (Polish and Russian is very similar language)
If you want to communicate with Russian players, the best way to do tthat is simply speaking the coordinates to attack/move;P I think almost any Russian player will understand words like "ty", "hi", "gj" |

German and English are both Angles languages. Most native-English speakers can generally grasp the meanings (or at least intents) of a German sentence.
If you don't believe me, use a translator and see how similar the languages are (you have to have a pretty decent grasp of English vocabulary, however)
I am American, we are traditionally the most intolerant first-world nation in existence. I have absolutely NO issue with Russians speaking Russian - in fact it doesn't make sense to me why ANYONE would feel this way. If you had a gripe with the server merge, feel free to leave - if you like having more people online, get used to seeing Cyrillic characters and get over yourself... |
