You can learn a lot of tricks by watching past ST fights.

-Cip-'s advice is the best way to improve your ST skills. In general I think players tend to be a little too afraid of the lightning tower. When playing factions without phantoms it is often much more important to get your troops ready for the next wave than loosing some hit points in the end of the current wave.
