Make revenue from selling in-game cosmetics

AuthorMake revenue from selling in-game cosmetics
I don't know if anyone has suggested this before, probably it has been, but anyways, my idea is exactly as the topic states - Let the game earn most of its revenue from selling in game cosmetics rather than selling diamonds (by in game cosmetics, I mean something like what many popular games like say DotA or LoL does). Currently, you can buy a UCI which is also an ingame cosmetic product, but making a custom character UCI, different for each person is way too costly, and hence is charged a lot and in turn, not a lot of people can afford that.Instead, develop some generic cosmetics, for both heroes as well as for troops that everyone will be able to afford.

Why this will help? If the game receives good income from selling in game cosmetics, it can reduce the influence of diamonds. I mean, let people who want to buy diamonds still donate for getting diamonds. But now, remove the facility for purchasing stuff like, say, castle upgrades through diamonds, because this causes a way too much disparity among players who have donated and who have not. But diamonds may still be used to buy some other stuff, like say getting a TGI, purchasing mounts, etc. which don't cause that much of an impact, but still does offers a little edge to those who pay for diamonds.

Yes, the game will, and should, favor those who spend money on it, else who will develop the game? And so I understand why those who pay get a lot more incentives than those who don't. But a lot of games (like for instance DotA) have made a lot of income doing this so it is a viable source of earning income, just as much as by selling diamonds if implemented properly. Also, if the game becomes more fair for both those who can pay and those who can't, its more likely that the game's name will spread faster through word of mouth and more people might be interested to play it, which might in turn increase money spend on buying these in game cosmetics by these people in the long run.

I know no one watches the idea section but still :)

Indeed a fantastic idea, in the monetary as well as aesthetic perspective.
I'm surprised they haven't done this at all

Seeing the amount of people who's willing to spend a lot of money for UCIs, there'll probably be a lot more people who's willing to spending little amount of diamonds on small cosmetic changes

Although, during the 'women's day' or 'defender's day' events, there are gifts that are only available through diamond, so a form of cosmetic purchases are already in this game
I think this is a good idea, especially if you extended the ingame cosmetics to the troops rather than the hero. Personally I am not much into cosmetic changes, though it would amuse me no end to have my troops permanently as some of the halloween options we have had in the past, or simply things like being able to always have shrews with rainbow hair.

My concern would be that flash is a rather memory hungry beastie, and these changes would potentially easily increase it yet more. However, I am not sufficiently techie to know to the potential extent of this issue.
^Yes, making cosmetics for troops have lots of potential to generate good amount of revenue.

Several games like I mentioned earlier are earning a lot of money with in game cosmetics and this helps keep the game fair to even those who can't afford to spend money, but at the same time, the developers don't have any losses...rather, they have more to gain as a game that's completely fair even to non purchasing players have a greater chance of attracting new players, who inturn may purchase some ingame cosmetic in the long run when they get addicted to the game.
They might add it some day in future, but don't expect them to take out options such as UCI or DU. DU especially is probably their 2nd largest cause for donations, 1st being donations from roulette gamblers, whom I don't understand, like why would you spend real money to gamble on a site where even if you win you won't get back real money in return.

However the problem is also the cost of these, if it's too high no one would buy them as they aren't really that useful, and if it's too low, well, then they wouldn't be profitable enough.
