AuthorBattle Of The Month Discussion
Firstly I would like to say thank you to everyone that has posted battles or cast votes so far in this competition.

However recently I have noticed the amount of battles being submitted to the competition has reduced, and so has the amount of votes, especially this month with only one vote actually being cast so no winner could be announced.

For this reason I wanted to give the members of the community who are interested the opportunity to voice opinions on the competition, Do you like the current format? If not, why not?

I have come up with what I think could be possible problems, and possible solutions to those, if you think I haven't mentioned your view, or you think you have a solution then feel free to add to it.

Problem: It's just the natural decline where the competition is repetitive and players have lost interest

Answer: Would a change of the competition's format liven it back up again?

Problem: There is no problem with the competition just players have no good battles to post and don't see the point

Answer: Would a side competition help to increase pvp activity on the server, possibly a commanders guild league or something of that sort?

Problem: The hosting of the competition has been inconsistent, such as the competition not being opened on the same day each month

Answer: I have to admit that I have had trouble with internet and computer, I should be okay to do that now, failing that maybe another player could open the post if I am not able to get online?

Problem: Prizes, is the prize too small, too much, or maybe you feel the prize could be given to more than just first place maybe top 3

Answer: That problem is easily solved if the community agrees on the way forward

Problem: The voting format isn't quite right

Answer: Not enough reason to vote? maybe you have an answer for that, or maybe it needs a complete change, such as a panel that decides the winner(s) each month instead?

Problem: People don't check the forums often enough

Answer: There are a few ways to solve that, maybe a mailing list of players who would be interested in knowing the competition is open, either in or out of the game, or maybe the clan I owned could be used for that purpose, so a clan mail is sent to remind players to submit a battle, or maybe I should look to military clan mail as a way of spreading the word?

I look forward to hearing your feedback, all are welcome and thank you for reading
Problem: with not enough good combat posts
Answer: Raise the prizes and give them to the top 3.
Filter the posts. They send the battle to you and you chose if it is worth it for this competition or not. This way us, the voters, don't have to lose our time and interest in watching uninteresting combats.

Problem: To few that vote and unbiased votes
Solution: After the winner is selected, give some small priced for those who voted for the winning battle. This way you will encourage more people to vote and to do so for the best battle, not just for their friends.

Don't think that is a good idea. keep in mind that all prizes are being given by one player and given that the main prize used to be 2k, any smaller amount which qualifies as 'small prizes' can never serve as a reasonable incentive for voting. Either way, i'm against rewarding voters in this way.

I think the main problem is just the natural decline where the competition is repetitive and players have lost interest and perhaps a change of format will help.
I think the players who are interested on participating must before hand, send their battles in order to be checked if they're 'good enough' because some battles in past, weren't good enough to be called best of the month or best of anything.

Also I think a specific criteria should be choosen for each month, for instance the best CG in one month, then hunt, then MG, then tournament, then whatever.
There's 2 major reasons for that.
1 - How I am supposed to select the 'best' battle of the month, if they follow in a completely different battle set up? Some times if feels like comparing apples with oranges.
2 - It would make the event more diverse and innovative.

Also I personally think, that each player should be allowed to cast one vote and one vote alone, no more than that.

Another problem that I see, is when someone cast a GB battle, why only one person should get the prize? If it's GB, then unless someone obviously carried the team against unbearable odds, everyone should be rewarded equally.

And lastly, there isn't enough participants that post interesting battles (lack of active players), which contribute to the lack of voters due the scarce battles to look for, which contribute to lack of interest on the event as it whole, it has to do with the active amount of English players, and there isn't much to be done about it.
mebbe u could change it to a monthly mini tourney 2v2 with preset teams and have a base gold reward with the prize pot open for contribution by other players??
Hmm personally I feel like some of the battles(survilurgs ones for example) are a bit too long so I usually am not able to watch all of them, and it doesn't make sense to vote unless you have watched all the posted battles. However I don't know if this problem applies to others, might just be me :P
thanks for your feedback so far, keep it coming:)
First of all thanks for the competition you run.
in my opinion the problem is just the natural decline where the competition is repetitive and players have lost interest coupled from, sometimes, our time being wasted from silly battles despite your catchy headlines.
the dates you set are fine and +- 5 days doesnt matter.

About the types of battles that can be posted,

HG should not be eligible.if it is the best battle the participant already got a record else it is not the best battle.
MG same as HG
TG is too much dependent on ap, caravan and being ffa doesnt help our judgement.fight against ai is also boring to watch.should not be eligible too.
Surv same as above unless 1vs3 or 2vs3 and again under conditions.
STs, best already got achievement.
WG, somebody already has won it before in an earlier event.

So eligible battles should be only pvp with full arts or some special event battles and that only if you approve them. You should always mmust have the right to disqualify a battle and filter the number of battles to 5max.
Might be good if participants pay a small entry fee and then winners share that gold.
Might help if we have a thread and post there the winner and the commbat (if moderators have the power to make it sticky)
A lot of good ideas by sofiouta :)

A SMALL fee is an excellent idea.

Might help if we have a thread and post there the winner and the commbat (if moderators have the power to make it sticky)

They can't do that.

^^^^Is this eligible as Battle of the Month ??

Im 95% sure there exist some rule forbidding that. just too lazy to read general rules page again :d
for Lord selfist: I think so too. Player conducted tournaments can't have any entry fee IIRC.
3.23. Any custom combat tournaments with a prize reward and/or a participation fee are forbidden.
Custom card tournaments are allowed.

oh well gotta scrap that idea then....xp
the competition is not a tournament.no need to explain why.the entry fee can fall to the rule about personal gifts.
Well I spoke to arctic about that rule and he said that this competition would allow a prize so an entry fee would not be against the rules. If the problem is that there are too many battles to vote on then I agree something can be done. However I'm not so sure that an entry fee is the way to go as there might then not be enough battles entered, either me alone or with a few others for sure could reduce the number of battles to what we think are the best 5 battles for the community to vote on as everyone seems to agree that is the way forward. There has been a lot of discussion about PvP / pve would separate competitions be something everyone would like?
PvE isn't fun to watch relatively speaking; Personally i do not care about player vs AI matches. I will confess i haven't voted for any pve matches so far simply because i never felt like watching them :p

I would just rank the pvp in terms of enjoyment and vote for that. However its quite likely most people do not share the same disdain for PvE so i can understand why it should be a part of this contest.
i agree with VV until the last sentence.
for virtual_vitrea:

I can give merlin36 some money for the prizes. Others can participate too, as long as we can see a good and clean competition ;)
how is this battle for the competition?

Do People think that a battle competition could be introduced alongside this one to help increase the number of battles, such as a commanders guild league for mixed/duel battles?
This topic is long since last update and considered obsolete for further discussions.
