I was just curious about whether the game is privately owned or open source, the managing and developing tam etc! Asking it since I'm into software and have been playing this game for probably 10 years or something, even before the .com and .ru merge. So it hit me how the game has grown and changed over the years. | Privately owned by two guys from Vladivostok, Maxim and Alexander. There are a few folks who help them (programmers, graphical design), but, as far as I know, they are not payed. | How do you know this? | for Another Player:
Been around for a long time. The admins gave a series of interviews back in 2010-2017, I think some of them can be found at https://daily.heroeswm.ru/, but you need to translate that page if you don't speak rus | I was under the impression that the game team is actually slightly larger than one would expect. I can't really remember where the info came from but I think there are between 10 and 20 paid staff. There are volunteer translators, mods, keepers (can issue fines/ban) in the player base.
It's run as a lifestyle business and the owners aren't interested in aggressive growth or development, it has run nearly as is since 2008 with only minor developments. The game has changed quite a bit over that time but some other developer could have easily achieved the same in 1 year.
The charm of this place is that it is one of the few holdouts of the old(er) internet. | for Acean:
Yes, the game team including mods and keepers is bigger, you are right. There are also people working on HWM bash, the service that provides lots of useful resources for the game. HWM bash started as an unofficial initiative, but soon it became part of the game, maintained by a group of enthusiasts. But all these people, maybe with the exception of a head chief Lexa, are only payed virtual gold, so they are essentially non-paid volunteers.
And you are right, from one of the old interviews I learned that admins were thinking to expand the team, but then they abandoned this idea, essentially sticking to a lifestyle small family-owned business concept | The charm of this place is that it is one of the few holdouts of the old(er) internet.
That's something I've been thinking about in the back of my mind for a while now, thank you for pointing this out.
Glad to be sharing this space | The charm of this place is that it is one of the few holdouts of the old(er) internet.
Yeah, totally agree. Also good to kill a few minutes here and there |
