Currently theres a balance on what class you are, as some classes perform better in this format - which is fine, BUT what about level balance?
My last EOFO was one lvl 5. One lvl 8. One 9. One lvl 11. Two lvl 12.
The lvl 5 clearly only has a 1,5x handicap as he was playing mage, while the lvl 12 had a 2x handicap because he played DE.
How is that balanced?
So my suggestion is very open ended.
Balance them differently.
Suggestion A:
Balance the fight based on your level AND your class. The level being 90% of the balancing and the class being the last 10%.
Lvl 12 can get up to 1,1x depending on his class.
Lvl 9 can get up to 4x depending on the highest level in that particular EOFO.
Lvl 5 can get up to 10x depending on the highest lvl in that particular EOFO.
(the amount of x is made up numbers that arent thought through, but I hope some wiser folks can come up with some better balancing)
Suggestion B:
Put people against a MAX of one lvl up/down - insert bots to fill.
Example: Lvl 5 joins EOFO. Can only fight lvl 4-6 (Im aware almost exclusively bots).
Hopefully you can put different personalities in these bots to create some dynamic gameplay.
To join a match as anything under lvl 11, currently seems to be suicide (which is fine as not all parts of the game should be balanced towards a lvl 5 fx.) but since you already try to balance these - then you might as well do it properly. | Hopefully you can put different personalities in these bots to create some dynamic gameplay.

Let me know when they're able to balance them differently though. That's something I desire for all mixed battles. Elo based matchups are irrelevant. | Balancing is surprisingly difficult and your 90/10 idea wouldn't work.
The multipliers are set and adjusted based on tournaments where the admins (or their algorithms) look at win/loss percentage.
EOFO is the hardest format to balance because there are too many variables. It also doesn't map well with the rest of the game because people use different kinds of builds. Mass poison, defend only, high mana raise builds etc. Nobody plays that stuff in regular formats so it's tough to balance.
The game does generally get more balanced as you level up but it becomes more rock, paper, scissors at high level. |
