so, im curious, cus i have spoken to several people who seem to think enemy stacks are either "in range", or "out of range"... if out of range, damage done is halved... but from what i have seen, it looks more to be like a very gradual damage slop - each square nearer to the bows, the more damage is dealt... there is a common misconception on 1 side or the other, any1 know for sure which is correct? if so, is there a precise formula / relatively accurate rule of thumb you would care to share? cheers... |
if u run the mouse over the individual you plan on shooting you will see the bow do one of two things:
If out of range the arrow will appear bent. This is reduced damage.
If in range the bow and arrow are regular. Clear sign that you're going to get full damage. This is also determined by the unit's speed range. |
umm...maybe read the game manual ? ^^
"...
Shooter:
This creature can deal ranged damage. When the distance to a target is larger than 6 tiles, the target only takes half the normal damage..." |
Help yourself =)

(The "Aimed shot" ability is a unique Crossbowmen thing, ignore it. No other shooters have that ability) |
blimey. well, that has certainly helped a lot.
saracas, i did read the game manual. all of it. about 2 months ago or something (when i started playing). it took me a few hours, i can read like a pro, but i comprehend like a jacka.... well, u know. if everytime i have a query, i were to re read the manual (or even try to guess where said info may be), i would likely have square eyes. i like to think it doesnt hurt you TOO much to impart a small piece of knowledge to me, i personally am only too happy to help / advise any1 with any query. a level 4 player asked me out of the blue yesterday how to get more mana. i noticed his knowledge was only 1, and thus explained the answer, without even 1 snide remark. *proud.
thanks for the picture arctic, very useful. im just shocked that it is so clear cut, purely from passing analysis, it feels like an enemy at the opposite corner of a large map gets a tiny % of the damage that 1 would get if they were 7 squares away. must all be in my mind :p.
cheers guys. |
oh come on , my remark wasnt that mean , maybe you should get a thicker skin :)
I just mentioned it because heroes as a very good manual with a clear structure and detailed info on everything ,but many ppl cant be bothered to read it ( as seen in the queries and help forum ) |
Mmm, remember that the damage from your skeletons is quite random as well, so it could just be that you dealt very little damage in the first turn, and then more as the enemy came closer.
75 skels deal (without bonuses) 75-150 damage. So if you roll an "80" on the first shot, and it's halved, you'd only deal 40 damage. |
one follow-up question:
What about large creatures as targets? Is it enough to deal 100% damage, if only one tile of them is within range, or are two or even all four tiles needed? |
yes, it is enough. but keep in mind that if you point to the back squares of the creature, which are not in range, you won't hit it with full dmg. |
...I just think bows and arrows are overpowered. |
...I just think bows and arrows are overpowered.
what was that? a barbarian with orc complain on bowmen? LOL |
Well... He might mean "overrated"... His orcs are throwing rocks after all! ^_^ |
eeehhhh... if only my archers could shoot poison arrows... |
I don't think so.
Poison arrows are overrated. |
