AuthorDonation Ideas
Speaking as a programmer, I'm all for supporting freeware with donations, or paying shareware that's reasonable. However, if this game gives a significant strategic/tactical advantage to people who pay up, frankly I'm not interested in donating anything.

I've seen other games provide "convenience" services for fee. I think that's great. Here's some ideas for pay features:

1) Start keeping stats on the number of times people "time out" in a game or "time out" in making a combat move. Allow those statistics to be viewable only to paying customers. (Hell, I'd pay for an anti-AFK feature.)

2) Allow people to build player lists. Not just a friends list but custom lists such as "good players" or "bad player" or "really tough" etc.

3) Allow people to set colors for people's names according to a tolerance in the AFK stat (e.g. show names in RED for people with >10 time-outs, ORANGE for >5, etc.) or set custom name colors according to custom player lists (e.g. "good players"=green "bad players"=purple, etc.)

These are examples of really useful features that have no game balance effects. If they were offered for a modest fee I'd certainly pay for them as I think would many others.

Also, make sure it's a modest fee. I think you guys charge way too much for your imbalancing "donation" features. You'll sell to a lot more people and make more money in the end if you offer a good value to cost ratio.

Ah thanks, I'll repost there unless a moderator wants to move the topic?
Another idea: Allow the paying players to create games that have time-out requirements. E.g. Only players < 10 game time-outs, or players < 30 move time-outs.
I agree that there are lots of service that people are willing to pay and some of those don't make the game that unbalanced, like change the outfit of the character, restore faster, can go to the nearby place faster, edit their own posts in this forum, get better-looking combat background and etc.
and a good upgrade..well just an idea..while your character is waiting for his turn he should turn to the character standing beside him and ask him to pull his finger..then the character breaks wind while all his other character laughs....:) i'm laughing just thinking about it...
You brought interesting ideas Branwell, but the topic of earlier upgrades and game balance has been beaten to death.

Truth is that administrators believe they'll make more money while selling in-game advantages to power hungry players. Even if their strategy make a lot of other people angry and unwilling to donate everything at all...

Ah well. I'm fairly new to HoWM so I'm not sure how far along the discussions has gotten. All I can say is that I won't "donate" or pay any money to a game that gives strategic advantages to paying players. Neither will my two friends who are now playing with me.) However, we have paid fees to browser games that give you convenience advantages.

As a side note, ever watch Gordon Ramsay's UK version of Kitchen Nightmares? He often advises restaurant owners to lower overpriced menu options. You should see how hard he has to argue that good value to cost ratio will bring them more money in the long run. And he's almost always right.
Well, there's market economy, and there's what game administrators believe, far away in Russia... And they could not care less about our opinion.

Frankly, I doubt they even read this forum at all.
