AuthorPublic opinion on private dispute. (A self-criticism thread)
I'm having a dispute with a character over a group hunt. My claim is that he failed to defend my bowmen and didn't force misses against the ghosts with his single bowmen. On top of that he attacked ghosts with his full stack of bowmen that were already deemed sure misses.

His argument against me is simply that I didn't stone skin him and did not play fast enough... and otherwise nothing more specific than being "nooby".

I'm making this thread because I am open to the possibility that I messed up somewhere, probably in baiting my sprites at a bad time; and to learn from it I need outside opinion.

The battle:

My reference of how knight + elf should hunt together:

His reference of how he is not a noob (though I consider it totally irrelevant to the point):

Any constructive criticism is appreciated :)
i dont see the battles, but if someone help u, he wants to get skill points too.. not only to defend ur troops :)
I think what u have to do is "SHARE GOLD" with ur partners ... TELL them that they will get some gold if U all can win the battle .. I try it and it is helpfully ..

No offense ..

Take care ^_^
Things I would had done differently...

The knight should had try to attack with the bowmen every time instead of waiting. Maybe should had try to volley with his weaker stacks so their be more 100% hit next time( if you spread the shots out then it will waste the ghost dodging). The elf should had skip with the forest keepers instead of defending with a stack of one it would matter if the FK was defending or waiting. If he wait he would had been able to possibly move his troops around or help out more. The recruit of the knight should had push up and take the counter from the ghost and save the knights from losing their so much.

I say that you should had try to focus on one stack at a time because the ghost manage to kill most of your stacks in one or two hit because you kept taking damage in counter and not doing much in return and ghost are not strong in defense or hp so killing them would been prefer over trying to defend against them.
in this battle only good luck could help you win.
and your partner was not so bad as you said.
2 of you didn't use knowledge about ghost that after 2 miss you will have 100% hit.
After 2 misses, there will be 2 sure hits, isn't it ?? But sometimes, i found that after 2 misses and a sure hit, a MISS again ! ... wow i was made so down with the ghosts, they are my biggest enemies, also elvens and Rogues ...
After 2 misses, there will be 2 sure hits, isn't it ??

You probably won't believe me, but it isn't.
There is a 50-50 chance that you miss

So they calc that miss one is .5 and miss 2 is .5 = 1 so next should be a hit

But I have certainly experienced three misses in a row
well.... i dont really see the problem
he made 2 little mistakes when he when he assisted you in a hunt

And that he didnt protect your bowmen is just bull, no one does it, why would he protect yours...lol....

If you want to avoid this for the next time, just find a friend and ask him for help, then no one else can join because his name is grayed out in the group battles =)
But I have certainly experienced three misses in a row

Please give a link to the relevant battle otherwise I have to say I never noticed 3 miss or hit in a row.

Concerning the battle I have to say single bowmen should always volley, its a bit tricky to remember all the hit/miss, but if used correctly they are the best probes against the ghosts in the game.

Also it might have been a good idea to place both your units in the center, so you could have supported one another more efficiently (e.g. taking retal), but I'm not sure about this point.

I think it was a mistake of the knight to wait with his 2 single bowman before he attacked the ghost with his swords for the first time, he should have tried to get a sure hit.

Furthermore I deem basic offense with battle fury much more usefull then advanced luck.

Sprites should have moved out of reach of the ghosts after their first attack, since undead never get morale, you can play very save against them
Here is a good example of the probing with volley (even if it are not so many ghosts)

I very much appreciate these replies... as they are helpful.

As for ghosts, the FAQ explains how the hit-miss counter works.

There is a 50% chance of hitting a ghost. If, however, you hit twice in a row, the third will be an automatic miss; and vice-versa--if you miss twice in a row, the third will be an automatic hit.

It is possible to have three physical misses or hits in a row. Casting ANY magic, including res, on ghosts will reset the counter. So if you get two hits in a row, then cast lightning on the same stack of ghosts, it is possible to hit a third time; but that third hit could also be a miss (the counter was reset).

Also worth noting, in case anyone did not know... each individual stack of ghosts has its own counter. So if you miss twice on one stack, you could still miss on a separate stack.

This is how the FAQ explains the hit-miss counter.
But I have certainly experienced three misses in a row

maybe like this

hit-mis-mis then mis-hit-hit
so, there will be three miss in a arow
The problem there is that after two misses there will always be a hit.

So that would have to have been hit-miss-miss then hit-hit-miss.
hit-mis-mis then mis-hit-hit

there must have been a magic atack in-between, or raising (unconfirmed)
-_-

Stay on topic please. The miss-hit counter of ghosts are irrelevant to the topic in question (and discussed to death, warmed up and killed again, several times before).

Anyway, to be a little helpfull. Since I play an undead I can't really compare to a knight, but I find defending the elf extremely usefull.
Of course everyone is in it for the extra skill-points (and chance for artifact) but to ensure a win, the elven bowmen should be protected.

In serious hunts, where the enemy actually should win, I consider the "win" more important than dividing the skill-points evenly.

Also, as a member of the hunters guild, I support sharing the gold after the hunt. That however is entirely optional.
As long as the thread remains within the boundaries of the general forum... I don't think it should be a problem to have tangents here and there. Though I agree, let us not derail the idea of this thread.
This topic is long since last update and considered obsolete for further discussions.
