Progressive Talent Point Commitment

AuthorProgressive Talent Point Commitment
Eventually, the admin is going to force us to decide on our talent path. Most of us are quite happy with being able to switch our talents depending on the type of battle involved, and do so very comfortably -- almost such that the thought of commitment may seem like: "oh, how I dread that day."

As an idea to help ease the transition, I'd like to suggest that a certain number of points be alloted as "required to commit" depending on the level of the player. As I thought about this idea, it seemed like it would help newer players to try out different talents before they were required to choose. It would also reserve a small number of "fluid points", which could still be switched so as to permit slight adaptation to various combat scenarios.

While I haven't yet calculated any sort of definitively acute progressive scale, I have a rough draft to give you an idea:

Level - Required - Free

5 - 0 - 10
6 - 0 - 15
7 - 0 - 20
8 - 8 - 17
9 - 13- 17
10 - 18 - 17
11 - 25 - 15
12 - 32 - 13
13 - 39 - 11

If I get enough positive feedback from this, I'll pursue the calculations further, to strike a more perfect balance.
I'ts good, but tweak it a bit. Something like this would be good:

Level-Required-Free
5-3-7
6-3-11
7-3-15
8-5-20
9-9-21
10-15-20
11-20-15
12-27-13
13- 30-15
This or another system, why not. But I don't even think there is a problem in the first place. People choose their talents and change them freely, so what? Next step, you'll require people to choose the troops in their army once for all at each level? Imagine, some people may choose sprites for a hunt and forest keepers for a group battle! Quick, let's forbid this!

I don't know how talents will be locked and when. The only thing bugging me is that like most of the changes implemented in LoWM, we'll be aware of it through an announcement just once it's implemented - ie. too late.

We'll log in a morning just to discover that the talent set we had chosen late evening will be ours for months.

At least I hope admins will tell us a bit how changes are happening before they are implemented.
The admins could also use the faction change rule as a precedence and implement a talent skill change system once per week? At least this lets people try and/or play different styles of combat, and also supports faction changing, as different factions would have a primary focus on different talents
I don't get this, What possible point is there for locking the talents ? Personally I find it fun to change my talents around playing different builds, So why the hell would they bann something that greatly improves the game ?

I don't care if I get banned from the forum or not, but this games rules are like totally Police State, 1933 nazi germany style

You can't say, act or think anything without breaking a rule on here

Actually, I think that this topic is against the game rules, your not allowed to talk about anything regarding changing any faction or troop ect.
I think that if they do "lock" the talents I believe they'll give ways to reset them. Something like the current oblivion pots for primary stats...
why locking talents? being able to select talents freely adds more depth ingame, its really good to be able and select them according to the battle by example you could pick magical resist when you facing lorekeepers or some magic boosting talent in other situations. leveling characters is so slow, who would enjoy getting only characters that are just good for a restricted kind of battles at the end of this long way?
The dumbest thing i ever heard...
You'd better lock this thread- if Kush thinks its stupid, it really is.
IMO, i think it is great that talent can be change anytime we want, and I wonder why you would try to disable this feature.
really it is great to change anytime, depending on the hunt, or a PvP battle.
by the way, if someone "fixed" (or took definetly) a talent A, if he changes to a faction that don't have the talent A. What happens?
so there would be a "free" way to change talent, where other people would be stuck to a specific template?

my main char is 5 and I don't know much about template, but except if the dev decided one day "talent will be fixed or use new potion of ...", I think to debate on that is not really relevant. I'll just hope they'll do something like Grusharaburas said.
Voting against locking talents, talking about transition solutions is accepting the idea of locking talents against players opinions, I thought players opinion would matter as announced on the first page of the game.
Actually free talent assignments is better than the original HoMM, but keeping free talent assignment would only be logical as HoMM is realtime and characters are build in matter of minutes while in this current game LoWM characters are build in matter of monthes.
I agree with hagnair, imagine you build up a character during year(s) -which is very probable if you dont give up yet, this game is very slow paced- and your character is messed up either because at later level you realize you need another talent or talent efficiency are changed meanwhile: those you already have picked are nerfed afterwards(like it happened in many games)+ you are stuck with them because talents cant be changed, then you would rather give up the game than spend your life building another character from scratch wasting several years evrytime...
Voting against locking talents, I mean we vote against locking talents at all!
Explanations references and errata

Exlanation and Reference of my previous alegations:
I thought players opinion would matter as announced on the first page of the game.
On welcomeing page of the game we can read
LordsWM is an non- commercial project, it is a free online service from gamers, for gamers. Every player is able to improve this free online game.
I understand it as player suggestions and opinions matter else player wouldnt even be able to improve anything right? else there would be no need of creating an ideas and suggestions thread.

Be aware that talent efficiency and/or cost can be changed at any moment
but *there is no info as it will be locked so locking talent*
locking has never been mentioned so it isn't an official decision yet
and I hope it will never be.
Also if any cost is involved, I hope that the Administration will take into consideration that players need changeing talents frequently and will allow them to change talents smoothly (with the minimum possible cost using only ingame currency in the worst case) or preferably no cost at all also because of this possible changes of talents efficiency at any moment.
