Author | Which one is better? Tower Shield or Thief Dagger with enh? |
I need advice, especially from people at level 10 and above.
I plan to buy Thief Dagger and enhance that with minimum total of 21% extra damage.
Which one is better for group battle? Tower Shield or Thief Dagger with 21% extra damage?
Maybe many player will suggest thief dagger, but please think again.
Without good defence, my units maybe die before attack enemies, especially if I have to fight againts DE (with shrews) or Barbarian (with orc chiefs) or knight (with one hundred of crossbowmen). |
Considering your low base defense I would suggest the Tower Shield... but at the same rate there are many other forms of defense. Perhaps save up for armor, shoes and helm to get your defense and get the Thief Dagger for your main form of attack. Not to mention you will always have stone skin. |
if you have a extrem good off and a medium/low def you will be one of the first targets if you play 3vs3 ;) |
elfs not defenders. They strong in attack. Shild can give you some def, but what do you will do with it? Dagger give attack and ini (!), with enchant - good attack. You are elf, so play like elf. You need many initiative to take first tern - bowmens before orc chiefs, efk before shrews etc. And many attack power, to destroy dangerous stacks at first tern.
Imo, ofcourse, you can try it or not =) |
Shield is better that thef dagger. 5 def = 25%less damage, is more that+10 melle damage from dagger and 1att, 1def |
Cipa, you missed the point. Choice was between a Shield and an enchanted Thief Dagger. |
enchant on 21% is more than +4 attack. |
MoonVampire, it's true that elves are strong attackers... but what will they attack with when their stacks get killed? A strong first attack is nice, but having a strong second attack is better. Yes, the dagger will be much better than the tower shield; though you will need defensive arts nonetheless. If you don't think you need the defense, then you probably wont need the dagger either. |
he have boots, cuirass, helm, 1 def on dagger, may be on rings and amulet, so - mi opinion - need as more power. Best defense is attack. |
In this case dagger is much better, offence is stonger that defence. That's the reason most arts are with defence. |
Let's compare them:
Tower Shield:
+6 def
5% ranged damage shield
To make it easier, let's count this as +7 def
Thief dagger with 21% extra damage:
+1 attack
+1 def
+1% ini
+10% melee attack + 21% extra damage -> consider this as +6 attack (although it's actually much more than +6 attack)
To make it easier, let's count this as +7 attack, +1 def, +1 ini
If we think that using thief dagger will make me weak at defence, I can move some of my initial attack parameter to def paramater. Off course I will not switch 6 attack param to def, maybe just about 3 def paramater.
The problem with this is:
1. I will be rather weak in attack when i go to battle without full arts.
2. If the opponent's tower shield is enchanted too, my extra damage from thief dagger will be reduced. |
i choose enchanted thief dagger, because some people say that the elemental damage is not reduced by def, but by resistance. If enemy's tower shield has, say, %50% resistance against your elemental damage, then you do 10.5%, still a good damage (right now, the highest armorer can only do about 44% resistance)
also, not many people want to enchant their armors, so usually there is no resistance from the enemy |
IMO there is no "gold choice"
All depends from all other players at battlefield (in your team, and enemies especialy form enemy at front of you). Too many random things. |
2. If the opponent's tower shield is enchanted too, my extra damage from thief dagger will be reduced.
If you want to consider that your opponents have identical arts - minus your shield - then the thief dagger will still be better.
The shield adds less defense than the dagger would add in attack. So yes he will be hitting you hard; but you will be hitting him harder; assuming attack and defense are directly related when figuring total damage.
Otherwise, if arts are not identical... it may be situational. Though I cannot envision a situation where the shield would make a significant difference over the dagger. |
