AuthorAnti-Dragon tactics
I'm beginning my attempt at dragon hunting, (dragonguards) out on the ridge. Finally got an encouter with two single Jade dragons. My character is a Barbarian lvl5 no diamond upgrades.

At the battles conclusion I was royally trounced though I had nearly finished off one of the jade dragons 3/200, lightly wounding the second one.

Any tips for the aspiring dragon hunter?
trick them into attacking each other and at start of combat have no troops in front row
yeah and also beware of draconic breath and use it to ur advantage

try to take 1 down at a time
You can't just put them into back row and relax though, these are of the Jade variety, they can reach you even when you are in the back row.

If you get roughly the same starting position again, try putting troops in back row...and in the middle of the column too. They may not reach you there.

a link to the battle. The jades sweep into the line straight off the first turn. And in fact 50 points of damage is done by one dragon to the other.
if u have put both goblin near your orcs, 2 squares away from the top and another from bottom, your orcs wouldnt have died on the first turn, i think

The jades had priority and moved before I had an opportunity to get any of my units moving.

reviewed an older thread on the same topic. Hobgobs were recommended over wolfriders by one contributer. Since I only have gobbos I wonder if they'd be able to fill the same role.
You should've taken 2 stacks of single wolf riders to block you orcs, not goblins, and I don't know if you see the dragon line up before the battle actually starts, but if you did why did you put 2 stacks in the corners so both dragons could easily one off your key stacks? If you don't see their lineup, scratch my last remark.

Firstly I suppose I was a little surprised with the encounter and it was my first dragon fight so I wasn't quite certain as to the beasts capabilities.

The corner positioning with the orcs was a guess. I saw both dragons but wasn't aware they had the range they did. If I could do it again I'd have placed my orcs to the center where they'd possibly have had a single turn of axe slinging.
This topic is long since last update and considered obsolete for further discussions.
