I, Darolous (Dare-o-liss), have one game to win. The tournament is against my arch enemy, Koleever (Ko-Lee-ver.)I have won, and lost many battles against him. If I win now, I am crowned king of all warriors. All other fights are first blood. This is the last, the fight to the death. Armed with only my sword, my shield, my helmet, and my knowledge I have to win. Koleever chose to have no shield, but a plate body instead. The fool doesn't know that a shield can protect the chest and legs when its moved. This is the battle that thousands of people will watch. The winner gets Warrior of Warriors, and all the money made from the crowed. I estimate I will earn 3,500,000 gold if I win. With a ring of a bell, the fight begins. I walk onto the field, and quickly notice Koleever is cheating. He has more gold than I do, so he hires people to make armor, that can't be seen by the crowed, or judges. But up close, I see he has plate legs, and boots. The stuff isn't the strongest armor, but it takes more then 3 direct hits to break though to the skin. I know that with his cheats my chances of winning are drastically lower. I only have one person hired, a spy. He told me he might cheat, and gave me a ring. He said "When worn, the ring will give you strength and stamina. Only wear it if you know is cheating, because after the battle it takes away all of your strength. If you win you will need to be carried to a medical room, where they will find no problem, but extreme exhaustion. Remember, aim face, face, legs, chest, feet. It is a deadly combination against which will lower his defenses." Koleever grins when he sees I noticed his cheats. I run toward him, slip on my ring, and turn left. His sword strikes out and drop. I roll a few yards, jump up, and counter his attack. With all my might I strike him in the back of the head. Then I plant another into his skull. When I tries to get up and turn to me, I stab his chest with my sword, then swing my shield and hit his knees. Kneeling in pain Koleever tries to counter, only to find that I crush his toes with my shield. Wracked with pain Koleever rolls away, gets up, and holds his sword like a shield. I laugh and race toward him, but faking much of his pain, he holds his sword straight for my neck. I see the counter attack to late. All i can to is lower my head, so he hits my helmet. The force of the blow leaves my dizzy, and I feel faint. I stagger backwards, and watch in horror as his sword is going fro my head. I lift my shield just in time to have the blade hit the edge. I limply get up, hoping he sees me as weak, and needing to be slaughtered. The trick worked. I remember my spy saying "A counter attack can always win." I shove my sword with anger, and force into his stomach. His armor, already weakened at the back gives out. His plate body falls to my feet. I kick it away, and get ready to puncture his heart. I look into his eyes, not knowing if I have the courage to kill a man, he is defenseless. Knowing In war leaving a defenseless man to live, is like being a spy, but not sharing the information, I close my eyes and drive my shield at Koleever. Feeling no hard strike I open my eyes to see that he is fleeing. He is going to the forfeit trapdoor, probably forgetting that for this tournament it is locked. I charge after him, while he is trying to yank open the door. Since the door is wooden he put all his weight on it, and it shatters. I catch up to him as he jumped down. Not wanting to kill him, but knowing I have to I throw my sword down the hole, and hear the sound of the sword hitting the metal helmet, then the thud of Koleever hitting the ground. I look down to see the sword went through the helmet, and into his skull. I killed an enemy, and will now be King of Warriors'. Not feeling the glory of winning, as I always have, I don't accept the 3,500,000 gold, or the crown. I run away to a different place. One where if I kill a man, its only to save the village, not to w | One where if I kill a man, its only to save the village, bot to win a tournament. To some the name Darolous means Weak, or Helpless. But to others they see it as courage, or humanity. The world may never know what happened to Darolous after he left.
Sorry about the cut off, I didn't know IO ran out of characters. I finished it for all of you :) |
