Because if you lose a caravan, you have to wait a whole hour before you can set the next ambush.
You have to get TG2 (120 wins) in 14 days (probably) so you need to win almost 9 ambushes each day. So if you ll lose an ambush, you have to wait a whole hour before you can set the next one!
So you can be cheaper to use less artifacts, but in the end it might be more expensive, because it took you longer then two weeks, so you have to pay extra gold for each extra day you used
