Author | fairness in random battles. |
back when I was still level 5, I joined a random battle, there were 4 lv 5s and 2 lv 6s. I joined in the hope that it would be nicely even and with 1 lv 6 on each side, this was not so, my side landed with 3 lv 5s and the other side both lv 6s. we lost terribly.
now my suggestion:
for the "random" group battle option, when assigning teams, the computer should add up the levels and get both sides with as close to equal as possible.
i.e:
in a random battle, there are 3 level 5s, 2 level 6 and a level 7. total level of all competitors is 34, half of that is 17, so the teams would be arranged as follows:
team red:
lvl 7, 2 lvl 5
team blue:
2 level 6, lvl 5
where the random now could potentially place all three 5s against the 6s and 7.

section 1.1
when things are not equal
when things are not equal, the computer would place place handicap on side with highest level player that have at least 2 levels above the second-highest. the reason for this is that higher level players often have better buildings and have a bigger advantage over other players
i.e:
players 2 lvl 4, 2 lvl 6, 1 lvl 5, 1 lvl 8
total adds up to 33, but since there is a high-level player compared to the others (2+ level difference), teams will be arranged as follows (or something close, as per the computer):
team red:
2 lvl 6, 1 lvl 5=17 total lvl
2 lvl 4, 1 lvl 8=16 total lvl
it really helps to balance out some blatantly unbalanced fights.
comments/criticisms welcome, flood/spam are not | There are several variants of Group Battles
One of them is called Even. The others are Random, Everyone for one's self and Optional (and Clan Vs ...).
"Even" is the variant you want. In this form players are randomly assigned but teams are matched up as closely as possible for level.
When you join other types of battles where there is a range of levels, you take a greater risk that the combat will be unbalanced, and a 50-50 chance you are on the weaker side.
If you like fair fights (and most of us do) then create the Group Battle how best to serve you and like minded players.
Cheers | "Even" isn't really even. It works by evenly assigning players to each side. This means odd # players are on the left and even # players are on the right side. This would be called random even, which works very well in real life given large enough # of players, but here since you can see who's on which side, you can influence this by joining the uneven side that's to your advantage. | 2.
but most of the time I(and other people) go into a random combat is to help even out the fight for other players, then find that you got into a very unfair fight.
other than some technical strain, I find this does not hinder anyone's progress, in fact I believe it to help most people progress fairly, instead of hitching a ride off two higher-level players. | You are suggesting that random be not random. Shouldn't your idea be an additional grp battle option by itself? | I believe that "random" in this case be "a random team composition" not "a random side with an obvious advantage"
though the idea be an additional grp battle option by itself is a good idea, like "evenly random," though that may just confuse the players more | Not going to happen just avoid random If you don't want it to be unfair | Optional - is the most unfair
Random - has a great potential to be unfair
Even - is as close to fair as you can get.
Cheers | just set the lvl cap by
8-9
7-7
5-6
3-4 | I have thought of "Randomly Even" before, personally, I want an option of Blind Even, in other words, players can join but won't know what team they will be on, but the overriding option is that there is an even balance. | I think ReIncarnate has a good point. But if you want a Evenly Random, just create with no range levels (ex: 5-5 vs 5-5). But the idea of Evenly Random is NICE! This option could consider even the ammunition points, that is not taken in any of the battles options. This would create the most ballanced group battle possible, and would be the best choice for those who want to play ballance on group.
