Orcs

AuthorOrcs
i have noticed that my orcs do more damage up close with melee attacks
should i primarily use them for melee attacks or continue with using them as a shooter?
Thats only because your enemies are out of range. They would do same damage if enemy is in range. When the enemy is 7 or more tiles away they only do 50% ranged damage, when the enemy is within 6 tiles orcs do normal damage, and when they are within 3 tiles orcs would ignore 50% of opponents defence if I remember right making them do more damage than melee.
and when they are within 3 tiles orcs would ignore 50% of opponents defence if I remember right making them do more damage than melee

where did you get an idea like that?
Orcs have this ability:
"No melee penalty:
This shooter suffers no penalty dealing melee damage."

So its up to you to choose if you shoot, or attack melee
Some times you might think that melee does more damage, but you have to keep in mind that if you attack melee, the enemy will retaliate, and when you hit it with the stones, the enemy will never retaliate (except succubi and mistresses)
for misself:
I saw it in someones album im not sure cud be I remembered wrong. But there is an effect when you shoot an enemy with half of your range
for hiddenshadow:
aimed shot from Xbows
In addition to being quite an effective range unit, they can do a reasonable and respectable amount of melee damage too.

Orcs do suffer a significant penalty if your range attack exceeds 6 squares

I suggest use them primarily for range despite the penalty, and don't be afraid to use them for melee when they run out of ammo.

Cheers
