I have seen this happen many times already and I wonder why it does. I have seen many a battle where the mistresses shots DONT ricochet. For example:

The first shot by the mistresses just "died" after it hit the farmers. Is there a button you have to hold to do that? Under what circumstances does the shot not ricochet? |

| I have not looked at the fight, but ricochet stops when the nearest(next) target is friendly to the mistress. You cannot control this actively. |
I just threw that battle out there as an example, but after having an expert demon weigh in with the answer, this thread can now be locked.
