If for instance the stack of ghosts is big and can retaliate, I wouldn't recommend that you rngage it i melee unless you are certain to hit it.
Basically you have to understand the mechanic; incorporeal that the ghost has. Such things as heroes and bowmen are convenient when you want to try to get two consecutive misses on the ghost stack.
