you know that there is about a 5% chance to NOT get ambushed by the brigands during an escort quest.
turns out if the brigand ambush doesn't trigger, you can get ambushed by regular thieves.
i don't know if this has been documented before, just happened to me - thought i'd let everyone know :) |

there were few discussions on this subject (+2 levels jump in brigands instead of +1). it happent to me few times as well.
about being ambushed by a thief, it is normal that if you are not ambushed by brigands to have chances to meet one thief. ;)
nevertheless, it is well to be announced from time to time on the forum for those who are new in mg quests. :) |

Brigands are not shielding you from thieves in three cases:
1. if the brigands don't show up;
2. if the cargo needs to be escorted in Silent Hill (the brigands can show only once, either YL->GC, or GC->SH, but the rest of the rest of the travel is subject to the thief ambush within the odds);
3. on your way back to Yellow Lake to take your reward.

Its logical becoz if u click on travel and have brigands quest u get ambushed instantly. While normal thieves dont stand at the edge of map but u get ambushed either after 30s of travel or 30s b4 travel ends if they were waiting on destination side :P .
Also not well known fact is brigands can always ambush u reason they didnt ambush u was they were waiting on different road but if u continue to travel around map u find them eventualy. :P
Also not well known fact is its NOT a free MG point. Thats why i prefer if they ambush me :P |

If you hand over the cargo, the brigands don't ambush you anymore even if you travel all the routes from the Empire.
It is quite free point. The only thing is the brigands level is increased even if they don't ambush you. If you don't get ambushed by the thieves on your way, your arts are not used, your money is not taken and once you reach back YL, you get your reward plus the MG point plus adding 0.5 to your reputation (if lower than 10).
It is a fast and easy way to make money. |

The chances are too small. I prefer to be ambushed as well because of two reasons:
1) i complete this quests travelling without amunition AT ALL => i achieve free skill + 1 MG point + some gold for completed task; you should know that brigands will show up in ALL cases excluding the 5% chance - either you have no required amunition, you HP below 40% or even if you travel with no units recruited; in that case you will appear with one first lvl unit on the battlefield. So if the brigands don't show up, i would rather go back and meet them :)
2) in case of not being ambushed, you get +2 levels jump in brigands instead of +1 - and so you loose potential skill points. |

If you look at it like that, then I would prefer a thief. I get much more experience and fsp. On the other hand, brigands at higher level are not so easy to be killed even with min AP. |
| once i had to travel to silent hill and thought i will be ambushed on the way to empire capital, but i wasn't and was already happy to get the free mg point, i have also unequiped the extra arts, then traveled to silent hill. Guess what! i got ambuseh there!XD |

sure, i know that. Best faction to stand againts brigands is "knight". On lvl 12+ (all buildings required) brigands of lvl 10-13 can be beaten easily without amunition. |
Well, I don't suppose that at level 12+ one can still have brigands level 10-13. :)
At level 12+ everyone gets citadel which brings a fair number of additional troops, so, if you still have brigands level 10-13 then, well, it doesn't depend on the faction to beat them without any AP. |

yup maybe except DE and elf brigands others are easy to beat.
DE and elf are possible with no AP but it depends what troops they have. |
