Is it punishment enough?

AuthorIs it punishment enough?
Hi all,

First, lemme say this is NOT a complain, nor am I seeking any punishment for the player(s) mentioned. The purpose of this thread is I wanna know from other players' opinions if the punishment meted out for this sort of behavior is a strong enough deterrent for such blatant breaking of the rules. o keep the players concerned anonymous, I will call this player X.

I was just assisted in a hunt and this player X asked for 50% of the reward. Usually, I would be glad to give 50% of any hunt rewards as can be seen from my logs. But in this case, I recalled this hunt assistant as the brother of a player I ambushed and they are very obviously helping each other get easy TG & smithing/enchanting points, as well as staging fights.

He and the other player ware fined a measly 5000 gold for 'staged combat'.

I wrote him an email telling him I have transferred the gold for the hunt to him, BUT kindly requested that he don't assist me in hunts anymore, as I do not want to be associated with players who broke the rules so blatantly.

To my surprise, the reply I got was one who total disregard and he insisted that he has not broken any rules and what he and the other player did was completely legit (!).

From his reply, it's pretty obvious that that 5000 gold fine means nothing to them and they will probably continue doing what they are doing.

So, I wanna hear others' opinions (and maybe from some mods too, even though they probably can't impose a higher fine even if they wanted to coz of guidelines given to them) on whether I'm over-reacting to the measly fine or that you people think it's a fair fine, or maybe... shouldn't even be fined at all?

Thanks in advance.
Do you think 50 thief points for ambushing your dog`s account is worth more than 5000? Nothing can surprise me.
Oh, this are excerpts of his replies to me:

the penalty you read is not ok, because that was a normal fight!
So: We did not violate any rule.

I'm not the one who reported him btw. :)
If you are the reason for the 5000 gold penalty get out of my sight or pay it back, cuz there is no rule being violated.

Facts:
1. I set ambush
2. Anyone comes and triggers the ambush (WHO that is and WHEN is absolutely no rulebreak by any way)
3. There is the normal fight (if you want you can look at the fight to which the imposed penalty refers to: https://www.lordswm.com/warlog.php?warid=481146545

Tell me!
Where is any violation to this?!:
3.16. Staged combats leading one of the parties to losing a priori will be punished for. A staged combat by definition is one where any one of the parties or party members intentionally loses to the other for any reason different from having technical problems with access to the game. Instigation to losing a combat is also forbidden.

Aswell there is no "Instigation to losing a combat".

If you have ANY real rule violation name it please.

Another mail:
I repeat: it is NOT forbidden to travel around, or is it? Then i would have some ideas to changeing this game ^^

5000 fine? Obviously not a deterrent whatsoever...
Sorry, typo, this should be a quote too:

If you have ANY real rule violation name it please.
If he breaks the rules again he can be reported again and the punishment will be harder.

¤ Staged combats, paid-for combats, deliberate loses, bad sportsmanship, giveaway combats.
- first infringement, 5,000 gold
- second infringement, 20,000 gold
- third infringement, 50,000 gold
- fourth infringement = character block.
There is possibility of premature block in exceptional cases.
prob is that he was fined a second time and the penalty was only 5k.Check his third page of transfers.

He uses at least 2 multis to level his smithing and stages ambushes with one of them.Fighting with multis is illegal no mater if you fight seriously or no.

IMHO he should be blocked
You think 5k was small? There is a player with over 100 staged battles and he was fined 20k.
mmm ... honest to God ... but what is so nice in cheating in a on-line game?

Are all these guys miserely frustrated in real life and need POWER? What are they showing with their behaviors? They can be faster than other players? Better? Stronger? Smarter? Wiser? WHAT?

I really do not understand ... but I feel quite down considering that this is the world my children will live ... :(

Indeed. It shows a huge character flaw. I have two teenage sons who quit playing in the online community because it goes on in every game. Even PS3 and Xbox games are tainted. It is frustrating for those who earn their stripes honestly. Yep, some world we live in.
Hmm.. he just returned the gold for the hunt back, implying I made false accusation that he violated the game's rules. Obvious that measly fine ain't gonna deter him whatsoever. Sad thing is, in his mind he thinks he did nothing wrong, even though the rules are pretty obvious. Sigh..

Maybe I should register a few 'brother' accounts too..
10:

it gets more and more appealing..
why only brothers? you should also make sisters,fathers,mothers,grandpas,grandmas,grand-grandpas,grand-grandmas,cousins aunts,uncles,brothers-in-law,sisters-in-law,mothers-in-law,fathers-in-law,friends, close friends etc...
I have 34 fishes in my aquarium ... maybe they can create an account ... point is: I don't care about cheaters ... they won't ruin the way I play and the fun I have ... but I am sorry for them...
We digress.. let's get back to the topic at hand.

I'm curious -

So in this instance, shouldn't it be 5000 fine PER infringement?

Even in RL law, court will take into account how many times u broke the rules/law, and mete out punishment accordingly. Like, someone who committed a series of robberies will be dealt with more harshly then a first-time offender who broke the rules/law once.

Shouldn't the same apply here?
Shouldn't the same apply here?

'Here' as in Lordswm, not player X. :p
i don't see the point in having multiple time-waste with more characters enrolling (it's already enough for me to enroll with 1 char, how much time is wasted with having more chars?)
you can't transfer gold, you can't do thiefings with multis, they are just there if you are curious about a race so you don't "ruin" your main
I do belive that this punishment is nonesens.
There many Players who travle with 1 unit because they want to loose fast so they would also break the rules.
And its really no crime to travle or ambush and in the end of it they allways fought and never turned around a lost game. This battle isnt more staged then 1unit fights or Groupbattle with [4]vs[2] descriptions.
yeah there's no way the battles are staged

So in this instance, shouldn't it be 5000 fine PER infringement?

Actually that is not how it is here (whether it should be or not is another case). The idea is the second fine is given out when the player ignores the first fine and continues to cheat and the third fine given out after the second one is ignored so on. This is what we keepers in the game are expected to follow when handing out fines.
If this battles are illigal due to staging then every 1unit or no unit ambush is staged.
And why not even those who travle without arts. I mean Thief often have strong arts you cant win thats a lost on prupose.

I think its not getting illigal because you know the person you are ambushing if that would be the case every lvl13 Players cheats.I dont see why it becomes illigal to walk a road from wich you know you could get ambushed by a mate
This topic is long since last update and considered obsolete for further discussions.
