I went to thief guild level 2 on levels 6 and 7 using full arts and then stopped for a time.
Now I'm trying to restart on level 8 - for the moment ambushing with min arts hoping to weaken the caravans so I can later win again with full arts.
However I fought five DE caravans and still didn't stand a chance in the last fight, and I'm pretty sure I would have lost with full arts as well.
Is it even possible to get the caravans weak enough on level 8 that I can win again with normal weapons, or will I need enchanted ones in any case?

Its no Problem have a friend who became TG4 on lvl 8and9 as Barb.
And even I as Wizard can win with minarts in 35% of the cases. |

| actually barbs are pretty good in thieving,may be try not to max your ogres,but make weight on hobgoblins and riders,because in thief guild initiative makes everithing. |
| Thanks for the tips and links, everyone! So I see it's absolutely possible to be succesful, if I still don't manage now it will be entirely because of my bad tactics. ;-) |
