AuthorHex grid instead of squares
I don't know the reasons for the square grid, but the hex one seems better. You have more spots around you, it's easier to guard shooters, it's easier to move diagonaly, there are more spaces on the battle field etc.

Also, is there a SEARCH function for the forum? It should be there for people.
there already is a search function but it is not very good
That's just a google search...
Cant really say if I will like it or not unless I try it....
it would be fun
Explain how it is easier to guard shooters?
I think hexagons won't improve gameplay.

actually you have fewer spots around you... you can attack each field now that they are squares from 8 others while with a hex grid you could only do it from 6 others. Which really makes it easier to guard shooters. But that would be an advantage for factions that rely on ranged attacks so... -1
what are hexagons
nvm my previous topic i found it out :D

I doubt if much people set their shooters in the middle of the battlefield.
The sides still got 3 "squares" to protect, the same as we got now.

Look here;

But I just wonder how a large creature would fit one it....
Well, a small suggestion would be to have large creatures sit on 3 squares, in a form of a triangular shape of 3 hexagons. That should give it 9 spots around it for combat. Just an idea, based on Sven's picture link.

Ambushes for example :)

#11 You have to turn those hexes horizontaly and you can fit a large creature in 2 hexes just like now. Look at the above link.
Sure, hex fields might make protecting archers easier, but there are factions who feed on destroying archers, thus it will make the game even more unbalanced. Even though it is a good suggestion, there is no way it will be turned into reality because of balancing issues.
i don't like that idea. sure it could create some interesting situations and has the potential to design new arenas and such, but it's not realy needed.

i can't see a direct gain from a hexfield - but much work on the side of admins and gamers. admins would have to do a LOT of rebalancing, especialy for movement and area-effects (mass spells and such). Gamers would have to find new working tactics...

and the profit? why should we change a working system???
well this was used in homm 1,2,3 and mabry four? I'm not sure.

I personaly prefer squares, it allows us to have large creatures and makes the game tactical too.
-1 no point but a lot of work

maybe a special tourney for this but not total gameplay...
The game is not that heavy on advanced tactics, besides those of you who have been playing HOMM series had full set of huge armies almost at the start, which meant much more units on the battlefield. here it is more about delicate usage of your own resources. I agree if it will be an additional perk for some tournaments or something, but not as a main rule set.
