Vanguard of Barbs - Shrews

AuthorVanguard of Barbs - Shrews
Just wanted to tell you that shrews nearly got themselves killed as I left an opening!

https://www.lordswm.com/war.php?warid=485116595

So don't do this and remember, shrews are stupid :D
Yes strangely they r the only units who don't wait. Well Rangers shoot but when they run out they wait, same as farmers and enchanted Gargyoles etc...
Hmm at this case, they should attack too .. :( but the admins may have made a mistake again ... :(
but the admins may have made a mistake again ... :(

*Sigh* Why must everything be a mistake on the admins part.

It's part of the gameplay/strategy that the shrews have suicidal tendencies. You are expected to play/set troops according to that. Not all soldiers will behave as you wish in battle (both virtually and irl) and including that in AI is good design I must say!
well, the farmer still went out and attack last time and causing alot problem.

but, after admin fix it, they prefer to stay now LOL
All allied creatures in Vanguard quests have 0 speed except Shrews. All of them have suicidal fantasies, so if an enemy is adjacent they will attack it and probably get retaliated and smashed (if any survive to that point). Shrews preserved their speed - to have an ability to help you kill off the vanguard.
All you need is to be attentive, to explore and to plan the combat forward =)
I say, let us buy a giant keg of ale and give it to the shrews, effectively reducing their speed to 0 ;). I agree with the ones who say it is very annoying and irritating at the very least the first time. I know of several people who went "oh, great, those shrews I shoul protect just stormed forward with überinitiative and got themselve killed and now I am at 0% without any action". Reminds a wee bit of a certain "protect mercenary archer" situation ,).
That said, I cannot decide whether I find it good or bad personally. I know, I'd like to knock out those shrews myself, though :O
i had a similar problem with shrews running about. even though it caused problems the first try, i hope they don't get rid of their speed. it is an interesting and unique scenario to work with.
shrews are fine. they just have to be blocked and you are safe. I just hate magi - they don't care, they just shoot when they run out of mana :)
for overclocker:
very true
yea it happend to me two i thought they would of waited but instead of waiting for them to komm to us he just goes there and suicides andone problem only shrews died no one of my troops where harmed but after i had 0 lifes and why cant we control them?
actually shrews only advance if they cannot use their strike and return ability.

That means that if you block them for 1 turn, as soon as the enemy get closer you can let them free, and they'll always come back to their spot. I found it pretty useful, sinceit allows me to take care of ogres leaving rocks and wolf riders to shrews (i only leave some gargs in diagonal, so that large creatures can't reach them).
Hmm Should be walled .. :)

Then they will never go away anymore .. :) and u can play it savely .. :)

yeah, telca is right, i use similar strategy. minutes ago had such fight and here is a funny way to use the shrews in these quests:

not that their help was of vital need but they must be encouraged to self-express themselves :}
The only bad thing is you lose fsp for the units the shrews kill, so I prefer to block them.
compared to the fun of it, 0.02~0.03 fsp is nothing ;}
