Author | Thai PM declares state of emergency in Bangkok |
What do u think? should i cancel my trip to bangkok next week? :-( |
Anyone here from thailand? >.< |
yes me. well if ur watching the news don't go to thailand directly through Bangkok airport. the main center of the city (bankok) is filled with red shirt(protesters). so for I don't know exactly how many but some of the protesters were killed. and even several not part of protest such as passers by have been badly injured.
All transportation other than airplane is blocked off including sky trains and
highways. so even if u did go there the traffic would be so damn slow bcos the streets are filled with red shirts. and tear gas is flying everywhere. um let me see uh right I just found out that bomb exploded at the university that my sister goes to. uh yeah so unless u have a helicopter for transportation u can't really go anywhere.
so no u can't go to Bangkok. but any other province besides Bangkok is safe believe it or not the provinces right next to Bangkok are safe. |

Sorry Georgia. this situation is not a joke.
This declaration was unreasonable.
A hard core battalions shot to protesters.
Some were died include 1 Reuter reporter.
Why do you come to Thailand Elfmoon? , next week is traditional (long) holiday.
No business running.
But for travelling. Just forget Bangkok, other place still safe.
Violence is in a few square kilometers.
And the most important fake information and rumor spread all over the country. |
sorry, i was in a joking mood and didn't read post #3. looks like more than serious thing. my bad. |

Though it doesnt really say why they are protesting.
Maybe they are just bored =( |
This is an unfortunate event. I live just south of Thailand, in Malaysia. We're observing the events, but the declaration of Emergency is much worst than I personally thought, though thank goodness it has not escalated further.
I hope all violence ends, for the sake of our neighbour. |
Why do you come to Thailand Elfmoon?
I on vacation, wan go there shopping with my friend >.<
Just forget Bangkok

Me too!!
seriously? wanna meat there? i travell alone, may be better to travel with a clanmate =D |
For Elfmoon,
take domestic flight to another province, if you don't have, just choose one.
For Zarebrant,
Take a transit flight to Cambodia.
The airport is very far from the protest site.
And i think this time the airport will be safe. |
I definitely wouldn't go to Bangkok now, even for transit. I remember last time (last year or the year earlier?) the Bangkok airport were shunt down for a long time. I don't want to be stuck at a strange city with bullets and tear gas flying around. |
@ Zarebrant
i choose stay at home play lordswm >.< |

But i still worry like what elenthil said. Better wait for situation stable :-( |
@17
The protest that closed the airport was by the "yellow-shirts". The current government of Thailand has their support.
The protest this time is by their opposing camp, known as the "red-shirts", who will most likely not cause the airport shutdown.
@ElfMoon
You going there for the Sokran festival on 15-Apr?
After a few weeks of peaceful protests did it turn violent.
I should think that the Bangkok Airport is still ok, though as Zenthos mentioned, best to avoid Bangkok itself.
From the news that I have been following, it seems to be very much contained within city centre. |
