this is intended more of a discussion thread than simply me proposing an idea, but..
i've been thinking about linking stolen gold with gold carried .. i don't mean a flat percentage but some kind of correlation
also the possibility to occasionally steal artifacts, perhaps requiring thief guild 5 or something like this -- many arts excempt from theft ..
it would incentivise many things -- keeping your gold down, trying hard to fight thieves, deliberately hunting players instead of caravans ..
i don't know about any of this, but since it won't be implemented anyway let's discuss this without fear of it actually happening :)

1. linking stolen gold with gold carried depends on TG level, which is very rational
2. occasionally steal artifacts that's called begging
3. deliberately hunting players you can't choose players or caravans, as it is not related to where you catch the prey, as it is random. it depends tho if you catch two ppl instead of one

noooo....a definite no, if u are suggesting stealing arts from other players (even if the % of stealing something is less than 1)
perhaps rewarding thieves with a random shop art for successfully beating a caravan, something like a (1+TG lvl)% and the higher lvl the art, the lower the chance for it dropping |
tbh most fun system thief system was at begining where u could ambush player -+2 lvl so u could never know what happens next, lower lvl players had monks as support + possibility ambushing 2 players more often then now was exciting. :) |
for marked_one: i remember the forums filled with whining about this, especially when there were still no caravans at all and you practically got to the ambush every other hour. not fun, not even a little bit.
as for the artifacts, there were forum topics to receive the thief rapier for every guild lvl, or successful series of thieveries. so far never applied, tho there is a rumor that the second thief war is coming nigh. maybe it will touch this server as well :) i don't think admins forgot about this guild at all. |
6 i dont know what u meant by no caravans at all? i guess it depends where u were hunting yl-gc was where most caravans were btw player to npc ratio was abt 9 npcs to 1 player/players ambush.
Back then caravans didnt trigger at the begining of every minute but i think it was just a bug they changed/corrected later and today there are also almost no caravans in off hours difference is there were even less players online back then now so maybe thats why there were bit less caravans. |

Stealing % of victim's gold? Lame. The gold you take is symbolical. It's not meant to make you rich or anything. Stealing artifacts from people... very lame. |

:) my intention wasn't to get rich from this, could as easily make me poor! would just add variety - some fights have more importance in this way - it would be exciting to see that your victim has 500k+ and if you were the victim it wold also be intense

well maybe :) i think it's kinda fun - chasing someone around trying to get thief ring off their finger :D
it would make the game more competitive, but i can see why people would oppose it - really i had in mind only worn shop arts - so you could steal their ring of might if you got lucky |
to balance it you could have thieves dropping some of their own gold when defeated as they flee
and even the same artifact lose rate :) |
to get thief ring off their finger there are artifacts, each of which will provide you with money much bigger than 500k. of course, killing the char, e.g. wearing gnome set in usual shop arts is next to impossible - but things happen. and i don't want to imagine what will follow, especially if the thieves will drop some of their own gold and even the artifacts. you will be praying to get the caravan :) |
I haven't ever thiefed (and i doubt i won't make it soon, too expensive with my attitude..), but thief can ambush 2 people at once.
So why shouldn't 2 thieves ambush together, to 1 or (as rare as now) to 2 human player. It'd be like every1 vs oneself, so only one thief get's it all ;) |

Victims gold / Bonus stolen
0-25k gold.......10-50 gold
25k-50k gold.....50-100 gold
50k-100k gold....100-200 gold
100k-200k gold...200-300 gold
200k-300k gold...300-400 gold
ect up to 1,000,000 gold or more.. 1200-1300 gold
2. occasionally steal artifacts
Very rare chance to trigger 1%
Perhaps if you steal to use for 1 battle in the next hour (like renting for one hour). After the hour is up it automatically returns to owner. During this hour you can not sell, modify, or transfer it. Could be limited to arts worn.
This would not make a huge impact but still add some variety and excitement to thieving. I dont see a chance of any changes to thieving, but its still fun to consider. |

you didn't read all what he had posted..he said that 1% chance to steal your art..but only can use it for 1 battle then auto return to owner
but still i don't agree this...1 battle costs you 1k++ gold?and ambushed by someone?i totally don't agree

Making it so that you have a chance to steal his art, materless wich art and how low the chance would be, it's still going to be lame. You're not making the game more competitive. You're making it more random. |

If its only for 1 hour and they cant do anything to it except use it once, its not a bid deal. Not having it for an hour and the 1 durability loss sucks, but really not very critical. But would make things more interesting. |
most of you guys forget the fact that TG is only profitable if you win in medium or even minimal arts, so for now the PvP in TG is just a necessary evil. if treated right, caravans are much easier than players. somehow everyone thinks you need a full art to challenge the caravans :) so these coins won't decide anything, even if you steal 500c off each ambush, as they don't cover the full-art cost you obviously need to wear if you are about to challenge 2 players or a player wearing full |
