Authorlighting chain
"Deals damage to a total of four stacks, jumping from the target to the closest stack, be allied or hostile. Each new target takes half as much damage as the previous one."

I didn't get the meaning of "closest stack" yet. Let's use an example:
In case of these positions in my picture:

If I cast lighting chain on vampire, how will the chain going?

My understanding is vampire --> Cavalry -> griffin --> druid
but what really happen is: Vampire --> Cavalry --> druid --> druid.

To me it's pretty clean that griffin is more closer than druid to cavalry.

Can someone clean it out for me?
It's pretty important to make sure if the chain goes to enemy or friendly troops when you cast a lighting chain in battle. Thanks!
For large creatures the upper left square counts as "hitting zone".
thanks, kiskoko

it makes sense. considering the the upper left corner,
Cav to Gri = 4.5
Cav to Dru = 4.0

I will check my recent battle to for more example :)
hehe, Sven91 pointed one of my mistake:
between the 2 stacks of druids there are some elven bowmen, why are they skipped?
The last lighted stack was elf bowmen, I was surprised by the 3rd stack, so didn't pay much attention to the last one. sorry.

Here is the battle link if anyone are interested:

It was a good game, and I was killed by 1 dark necro + 1 light knight + 1 moral fervor knight very badly.

Meanwhile, I checked a few of my recent battles and did two thief battles with the answer from Kiskoko (thanks again :p). "For large creatures the upper left square counts as "hitting zone"" is the key.
There are two more pictures if you are interested :)
