Ideas Born beneath

AuthorIdeas Born beneath
After having all his troops defeated by the venomancers, a Military clan leader fled from the crypt just in time to evade rusty arrows fired at his back by the Skeletal bowmen.
He looked emaciated, with his armor stained in blood and covered with dust and ooze. He paused to catch his breath and let his eyes get used to sunlight again, then called on his horse and headed over his clan's castle. He had several ideas which he decided to bring to realization as soon as possible.

Some time later, a pack of pigeons left his dovecote heading to other Military clan castles. Each was carrying a missive written to the other clans' leaders. The elf leader expressed his ideas concerning the progress of the current campaign.

"To leaders of the glorious Military clans,

Until now our warriors and mages have been extremely successful, moving forward in the crypt, battling through the throngs of venomancers and succeeding in unlocking one of the enclosures.

However, you cannot disagree that the enemy is becoming more and more challenging the further we descend downwards. I consider it necessary to gather my men and to announce strategical specifications to improve our overall combat efficiency. If I may, I would also like to ask my fellow generals to spread these thoughts in any manner and content they find appropriate.

First of all, I have realized that my warriors are in average much more successful when they form balanced vanguards, of same or nearly same combat level, and of different roles on the battlefield. Combat discipline is also vital, Lords discussing their troops' actions and taking mutual decisions act as one large mechanism of war, becoming even more deadly compared to when they are acting silently putting hope into their companions' intuition. Such vanguards have by far greater chances to destroy the enemy and surviving the combat in their full numbers.

This leads to the second suggestion. Some of my men kept Calamity keys to themselves, hoping to form a collection, give as a present to their spouses or brag them as trophies in future. While it is a personal matter of every Lord and Lady what to do with the keys, I still commanded the clan heralds to state the obvious: using keys instead of saving them leads to faster enclosure uncovering. And if every enclosure stores items as great as the one we unlocked, our most experienced lords will benefit greatly from their unlocking. After all, the items found down there surpass the ones Empire's shop had to offer in quality.

I hope you find my suggestions useful and my concern not a nuisance to your busy wartime routine.
In homage to you,
Leader of Military clan X"

By the time carrier pigeons reached the camps of all Military clan leaders, the author was already riding back towards Verdant Dell. The campaign was in full motion.
