AuthorBattledive's problem during ambushes
This creature flies up into the air aiming to attack the battlefield tile of your choice on its next turn. Until that attack, the creature is not present on the battlefield. Any creature that will be in that tile at the moment of attack, be friendly or hostile, will receive the normal physical damage without being retaliated. After the dive, this creature will land on a random tile.

What exactly is unclear about the expression "random tile"?
Usually, in EVERY fight (except the carovans), Royal Griffins land on the tile NEAR the attacked stacks, and if there's no space, in the most closer tile. Instead, during ambushes, Royal Griffins land regularly 1 tile far from the taget, even if they have the space to land near them. And this is not normal :)
griffins attack tile 9:9

7:7 8:8 9:8 11:8 9:6 8:10 9:10 10:10 10:9 11:11 12:9 9:11 7:12 and 6:11 are blocked by creatures
griffins are large creatures, so where were they _supposed_ to land? there was nothing closer with a free 2*2 spot
@sven91

haha..... i guess tht can never happen.
I'm obviously paste a wrong link, but what i've described its happened many times. Problem is that I don't have so much time right now; I will post some examples as soon as possible.
@5: thanks for your contribute to the discussion, very useful :D

This is my last battle, I was ambushed by Knights Brigands. Enemy Royal Griffins hit my crossbowmen, and they land 2 tiles away. I think this is due to the fact that they wanted to land on the right side of the xbowmen, but they have no space. But it would be more correct if they were landed on their left side.

Maybe I'm wrong, but I think that it should works in this way.
Please, before posting any more, read post 2 and think about what you have read.
After the dive, this creature will land on a random tile.

Ok, so, this is the key to answer to my question (that was a little bit harsh, re-reading it again, and I have to ask sorry about the way i posed it): the battledive is random, and also if there is a free spot near the target, they will land in a casual direction - also 2 tiles away from the target, if the tile "chosen" by the ai is occupied.

Is it right?
random tile is exactly what it means - where it lands after the dive is not pre-determined by any formula, although it almost never lands more than 1-2 tiles away from its target unless there are units near intended target.

but Royal Griffins seems to have become more stupid then ever

I have done countless battles with RGs and it seems to me that AI now don't necessarily make the RG lands next to an enemy shooter after the dive in ambushes, even if there's a free tile next to the shooter.

From my experience, in hunts, quests etc, it does seem that the RG almost always land next to target if there's a free tile next to shooter.

It's not that RGs have become more stupid, but rather AI has become 'smarter'. Since where it lands is determined by AI, why would AI wanna help you by making it land next to its shooter? :p

To sum it up: random tile is exactly what it means - random. :)
really, countless, lol:))=
Combats fought: 8554

u are far from countless:), but u are right about it in your conclusions.:)

btw, rgriffins are pretty much meant as 1 attack +1 distraction, they can hardly survive 2 turns in any smart tactic.:(

our questioner had on his mind about usefulness of rgriffs, which is questionable, especially since nerf of their damage. 1-time thingie should have at least decent damage, perhaps 1% chance to finish target entirely xexe:)=

they are large, they are unlimited retal, but they are way too vulnerable.
one of new areas of them being crazily affected is pierced shot, which can knock LARGE creature 1 square back, really????? that is indeed beyond ridiculous!
pierce shot should not affect large creatures at all, and specially not in a way of knocking them back lols!

anyway just expressing it :)
