is it considered plagiarism if the person you copied allowed you to do it? for example if you copy homework. |
It would still be plagiarism if you claimed it as your own original work.

plagiarism is basically stealing someone else's work and claiming it's yours. but if the person lets you copy, it's not stealing... and also, if you paraphrase it, it's not exactly the same, so it is considered my work. my techer says otherwise though. i dont understand |
Paraphrasing, IMO, does not cause the original idea to become your own. You are still quoting something which, in essence, was thought up by someone else. You just rephrased the idea in a different sentence, that's all. |
If you simply take an existing text and simply "paraphase" it, that is still plagiarism. Just changing the order and composition of the words takes effort, but it is not really a new "work" (remember that some words have multiple meanings).
It is not stealing because the copying was permitted by the original creator, but trying to claim it as your own work is still not representing the true situation. You said in post # 1 that you copied someone else's work and you obvious don't have a problem saying that here. But I imagine you might be too embarassed to say so to your teacher.

but it's still different. i did not say exactly what was said by someone else.
and also, if i do not state the source that i got it from, it doesnt mean that im saying it's my own work. it doesnt say anywhere on the paper that i am the one who made this up. i am just the one who wrote it down on this piece of paper |
@ 5
I didnt copy anybody, but someone in my class did, and our teacher got mad and said we have to write an essay about it lol. im just trying to see what's so serious about copying if the person you copied has no problem with it. |
stop whining |
for Asarile:
im asking to explain and answer questions i have. if u cant post anything helpful, then dont post at all please |
here something helpful dont copy or let some copy there problem solved |
problem not solved. i have to write a essay about it and if i dont understand what i asked in post #6, then i cant write it |
@7 I don't know what age you are, but in school, you create a piece of work to show your comprehension and understanding of what you are being taught. By copying someones work, that is not shown.
It would be even worse if the person did not allow you to copy it and you did anyway, as there is a betrayal of trust issue there too, but the big problem with this plagiarism, is they have falsely claimed a result they don't deserve.
Also in regards to post 3, I think you need to look up plagiarism. It's copying, not stealing work, that means it's plagiarism. |
@6 Are you studying law? There are some assumptions when you hand over a piece of work. One of them is that you created it. If you didn't create it, you attribute who did create it. That's why books have bibliographies, footnotes, etc.
I think the saddest thing here is you obviously have not learnt your lesson. In 6 you say it was you who did it, in 7 you said it was someone else. Your moral compass seems set on "do what I can get away with", not "do what is right". Hopefully when you get older that will change.
If you can't see what you've done wrong by now, I am worried. |
According to webster dictionarry, the definition of "plagirising" is to commit literary theft.

this is called cheating. not "plagiarising" as my teacher said. this is where i disagree/misunderstand |
In 6 you say it was you who did it
no when i said "I" i was making an example. |
plagirism using someone elses work for your own purposes |
You are legally allowed to copy something without permission if it is a parody, at least in my country.
My current Vice President ran for office of president in the 80's and got caught ripping off someone's speech and had to drop out of the race in disgrace. |
for Modi:
i live in USA. it is legal here as long as it's not protected by copyright, but schools and universities get really pissed about it |
lol all you gotta do is change a couple of things here there and its yours by law this works even with things that people copyright |
for lukeman56789:
this seems to be the problem... if u paraphrase it, is't still considered plagiarising which it the part that's confusing me. because ur not writing exactly what someone else wrote. doesnt matter about the idea, you made up your own sentence, this should be enough.. smh -__- |
