Yes.
Howewer they died so % of them raises again. |

It doesn't matter if you win or lose. If you recruited from the reserve and some of them die, your reserve will decrease (you can raise them back as much as you can before the battle ends to prevent the decrease).
Now, regarding winning and losing, if you win and you were fighting some living (other than undead, elemental or mechanical) creatures you will also get some skeletons, whilst losing won't give you any. |
| And if you get lots of extra skeletons, you can sell them for some quick gold |
