Agree with Khel. What does it matter if you know whether the person has read your mail or not? If he hasn't replied yet, then that means he's too busy to reply or just doesn't want to talk to you. Knowing he's read the mail or not isn't going to change that.

And what exactly is the point of that? You'll send more mails to that person? If he didn't reply to the first one even after reading it, what would make him reply to the second or third mail? (sheer annoyance, maybe...)

While I do agree that it might be useful in some situations, it's nowhere near as important as you're trying to make it out :)

What will a second mail help!
The "new mail" symbol is there if there is new mail. Its not gonna get any brighter or cleare if you send a second or third. E-mail works in the same way with great succes I really can't see a problem other than people want to spam people with msg. Fortunally we got the block and delete button to solve that problem.

If he really wants to reply then why wouldn't he have read it? You get a "new mail" symbol whenever you receive a mail. So, if he didn't notice that symbol the first time you sent a mail, why would he notice it the second time?

Again, I repeat: What good would it do you to know that the other person has read it? They'll reply to it if they want, not because you *know* that they've read your mail...

So, you want this to be implemented because of potential emotional distress? O.o
Once again, what does it matter if we *know* whether the person we sent a mail to has read it or not? If he wants to reply then he will. If he's unable to reply at the moment then sending any subsequent mails is useless. We do know that when someone gets a new mail, it's very hard to ignore and that he will read it as soon as he can. Again, sending any subsequent mails is *USELESS*

Once again, completely irrelevant. So what if your friend (or NEW friend) knows that you have read the mail they sent to you? Or vice versa...If you/he can't respond at the moment then you/he will just have to wait for a while to get a response. Knowing that the other has read the mail won't change that fact.

That....makes no sense at all.
You get a scroll symbol on the character tab when you receive a mail. Someone might not read the pm at once because, as you said, they might be doing something else [battle, tavern, logged out etc..]. But he WILL notice that new mail received symbol when he comes back online or finishes the battle. You don't have to send another mail to attract the person's attention.
That's what I've been trying to say. Why do you really need a "unread message has been read" sign? When someone reads it, he'll read it. And what would you do if he doesn't read your pm immediately after you sent it? Spam his inbox with the same mail over and over again?
Such a button is useful only for social network sights, where people tend to get over emotional about things like that. Yes, I know I said that this might be useful for some things before. But Lords of War and Money is primarily a fantasy based real-time strategy game, NOT facbook w/ attached beasties. |
