Not exactly, the one who kills the most gets the first place. You can last longer in turns but be the last guy. If by longer, you mean more waves then you can say it's like that yes.
(Just a little detail considering your used word "longer" which may be missleading). |

If enemy liches damages some other AI troops then it wont count for your score. Therefore you can get into the next wave, but not win the tournament. |
