i can confirm you that i used new year presents and it worked fine on last tournament.
As of ale, I has a doubt, although everyone says no, since it's still a shop artifact item. So I bought one and drank it, then went to subscribe for tournament.
It says indeed 'equipment disparity', meaning that ale cannot be use.
