I think should be more appropriete if mass spells have a area effect based on Combat Level instead always 4x4.
For a CL 5 - 7 I think 3x3 should be enough.
CL 8 - 10 4x4
CL 11 - 13 5x5
CL 14+ 6x6/7x7
Mainly because when you get new troops 2x2, your buffs/debuffs could not reach them on same time, also on Heroes V we could buff/debuff all troops at once. |

The Spell by itself changes the battle outcome easily. if you increase the area of effect some factions would be unbeatable. still a new talent can be applied for it but the game balancing would be the main issue of this.

I disagree with lvl 5 3x3 area. It is too small. But:

Are spells such as disruption ray and poison also part of this, because in HoMMV they didn't affect every stack, only an area? |
Only spells which affect full area such Rapid, Bless, Delay, Curse etc.
Others should keep as it is :) |
This would strengthen high level holy and darkness magic players, which are not available to all factions.

If needed they could give some nerfs/buff others factions most affected, which is not the case about this thread. :)
I just think, they need more range on cast spells, when you're just a CL 5 - 7 you have only 4 kinds of troops, even so only 2.5 are really important, with max 1 2x2 unit size.
When you're eg: CL 20 you have 7 unit types, and atleast 5 are extremly important, so they need proper area buff/debuff. Because the scale of size have literally changed. Also to not forget will have 2 - 3 units 2x2 size in your army.
If empire needs do a reform to adjust a more appropriate balance to new system, ok. Gonna be even better, but it's not the point here anway :) |
