Usually, the speed of creatures protected in vanguards is 0. Shrews' speed is not made 0 so that they can attack, most MG questers learn that the way _-PRAJOY-_ did :-P Some selected ones may Ctrl+Click the creature and check its speed though ;-) There is no Defensive mode in those battles.
