DNS issues resolving lordswm.com domain

AuthorDNS issues resolving lordswm.com domain
You have 3 different possibilities:

1. Use the IP as you obviously already tried.

2. Add a line in your HOSTS file under C:\Windows\System32\drivers\etc
178.248.235.15 www.lordswm.com
(Path dependent on OS version. You must start notepad as admin.)

3. Add more DNS server to the list in your network settings. You may or may not want to keep your existing servers. There are many free servers you can use. I have personal experience of those two:
OpenDNS: 208.67.222.222 or 208.67.220.220
Google DNS: 8.8.8.8 or 8.8.4.4

Answers to your questions:
1. Yes. See above. You can easily change or add DNS servers even if you are using DHCP to get an IP address.

2. No, not as far as I know.
Did you tried to flush your dns?
Thank you guys for the suggestions .. I'll try them next week when I'm in the office. Interesting suggestion, Atheros, I'll try that first thing!
Unfortunately, none of the suggestions solved the issue (editing the hosts file, additional DNS servers, or flushing the local DNS) .. I strongly believe it's a network issue, considering I'm using the same macbook at home and at work .. it works perfectly with my home network, but doesn't resolve the host name from work.

I'm still able to enroll by using the direct IP address, however, the interface is in Russian, and I can't do any battle .. if I start a battle, the initialization screen starts, and nothing happens afterwards!
The Flash program in combat probably use direct links to pictures etc. Those links likely include the full address and will not work unless you can resolve addresses.

Whatever happens with your DNS, editing the HOSTS file does work. Windows looks at the file before trying to resolve the address using an external DNS.

To verify that you edited the file correctly, you can try to ping www.lordswm.com. Then edit the HOSTS file to a totally wrong IP and verify that you get the wrong IP when you ping.

It is difficult to edit the HOSTS file because you must open the editor (Notepad for instance) as admin. Then save the file without extension (txt).

I agree, it allows me to ping the host, but still does NOT resolve the issue. I confirmed it's a network issue by trying to connect from other servers from our intranet, and all gave me the same error!

Interestingly, I used a proxy, and was able to connect and login to the game! however, I don't like using anonymous proxies, or privacy surfing websites (hidemyass.com or the-cloak) :/
I find it really strange that you are able to connect writing the IP directly in the browser, but not when you have that same IP in the HOSTS file. Did you do the test in post 6?
Yes I did. Without having the ip and host name in the hosts file, I don't get a response for pinging, but when I add the ip and host, I can ping the server successfully. However, in both cases, I get a DNS error through any browser I use (Firefox, Chrome, or Safari). It's a bizarre behavior indeed!
Maybe try the K-Meleon broswer,it has a different behavior than ff/op/ch
I have done some tests now.
* When I make changes in the HOSTS file, I have to restart FF. FF seems to have it's own local DNS cache. It can not be flushed with IPCONFIG /FLUSHDNS.
* Lords only use one single URL and IP. Only a few functions such as the players pictures use another URL.
It's not a browser issue, Atheros, it's a network issue; I've tried connecting from another computer at work, and got the same DNS error.

STB, I'm using the same macbook at work and home, when I'm connected to the work network I get a DNS error, and when I'm connected to the home network it works perfectly! isn't the same hosts file used in both networks?
Isn't the same hosts file used in both networks?
Yes, it is, but FF first looks in it's own cache. Secondly in the HOSTS file and last in the external DNS. You must restart your browser when you have edited the HOSTS file.

I pointed my DNS to a false IP. Then I could still use all sites I had used since I started the browser. Other sited did not work. After restarting the browser, I could not use any site. I added LWM to the HOSTS file, restated the browser and LWM worked perfectly.

You don't have any other entries in the HOSTS file, do you?
You don't have any other entries in the HOSTS file, do you?

I do have localhost entries; this is what's defined in the hosts file:

127.0.0.1 localhost
255.255.255.255 broadcasthost
::1 localhost
fe80::1%lo0 localhost
I have no explanation for this .. but I'm able to connect to lordswm.com from work without any problem today!

Thank you STB and Atheros for trying to help.
