AuthorColloquial English and not only.
Hello, ladies, gentlemen and scholars. I am Russian, but I have been studing English for about six or seven years. But sometimes I can not keep in mind easy words, which are important for me.

In this topic We can discuss different words, which are widespread in English Language. So, help other people in styding this beatiful language!

I begin. Which words are usually used in slang? I do not know sland very well and I would like to know, how changed differnt words in language. For example, money or relatives and so on..
Slang words are different from country to country. I am from New Zealand. We had an American visit the other day, he was confused by the term "Yeah, nah". This is a common term used in New Zealand - It is a way of saying no. Except that it is confusing because we often say yeah, (yes) then we finish by saying no. It's a bit unsure, but people usually follow it with an explanation of what they mean.

Another American once told me that it took him a while to get used to greeting people in New Zealand. Here, you will walk past someone and say, "How's it going?". This is not a question. It is a way of saying hi. If you are asked that question, you do not stop to tell the other person how you are doing, you might say good. Or you might just say hello back and keep walking. The American found it funny because whenever someone said this to him and kept walking he became confused because he thought that they were asking him a question and he was going to answer with what he had been doing each time, but all they wanted to do was say hello while passing by.

money

You might call $1 a "buck", $2 "two bucks" $10, "$10 bucks".

relatives

The word "cuz" is short for cousin. But it is most often used to describe a friend. "bro" is short for brother, but also used to describe a friend.
